"It looks like we have a visitor." Jin Guangyao broke the silence and used his sword to tilt Wei Ying's face towards the doors before returning it dangerously close to his heart.
Heads turned to the doors as they were swung open and a figure wearing pure white robes that swayed regally in the air walked inside, their face daring the cultivators wearing sparks amidst snow to attack him.
"Lan Zhan..." Wei Ying whispered and felt his heart shatter a little.
Lan Zhan looked over to where the voice had called him and his face darkened when he saw Wei Ying lying battered and bloody on the floor, seconds away from being stabbed to death.
"Hanguang-jun, it took longer than expected, but you have arrived." Sect Leader Jin said with a smile.
Lan Wangji looked over to his brother and Jin Ling with a blank face, but Wei Ying could see the confusion and worry hidden deep in those bright eyes.
"I hope you will comply like your brother has, or else my hand might just slip-" Jin Guangyao paused and the sword moved downwards in his hand, its piercing sharp point penetrating Wei Wuxian's chest once again.
Wei Ying looked at Guangyao with hatred but when he turned to Lan Zhan his face became dejected and fearful.
"Lan Zhan, you shouldn't have come... Leave before you get hurt too- ah!" he stopped mid-speech as his abdomen exploded in pain. Jin Guangyao had stabbed him once more in the same place and the pain was worse than last time.
The smallest, single tear fell onto his cheek as he clenched his eyes shut, gritting his teeth to not let out any more cries of pain. He wasn't going to give Jin Guangyao the satisfaction.
"Meng Yao!" Lan Xichen called and said person withdrew their sword as he looked over.
As the metal emerged from his body, Wei Ying's head fell back against the stone floor and he took jagged, raspy breaths. He saw Lan Zhan's fist clench around his sword hilt and felt a wave of despair wash over him. He didn't want there to be a fight, he didn't want any blood except his own to be shed, no matter how much hatred he had in him. That was why he didn't fight back when he had the chance.
"Don't... go and... get help." he muttered as he fought the blackness surrounding him.
"Brother, if you will ask Hanguang-jun to seal his spiritual powers, please." Jin Guangyao spoke clearly.
Xichen nodded and asked Hanguang-jun to conceal his energy. He looked between his brother and Wei Wuxian with a sad expression. He hoped Lan Wangji could help Wei Wuxian with his power but now that would not be an option.
"Hanguang-jun don't!" Jin Ling shouted and was met with the annoyed expression of his uncle.
"Jin Ling," Jin Guangyao sighed, "I didn't want to hurt you."
With the familiar flick of his wrist, he sent a guqin string towards Jin Ling. Everyone's eyes widened and Xichen made to block the string, but before he could take a step forwards the string was intercepted by something else. A jet of red energy sent from Wei Ying's outstretched arm knocked it off course and flying into the wall. Jin Guangyao looked furious and turned his focus to Wei Wuxian who was leaning up on one arm looking shattered but defiant.
"Still playing the hero?" he mocked.
"Still being an ass?" Wei Ying's eyes glinted with undying mischief.
"You!"
Sect Leader Jin shot the chord towards Wei Ying and dragged his body to kneel at his feet. With a firm hand, he pulled up Wei Ying's chin so the pair were staring dangerously into each other's eyes.
