Three days came and went very fast and before they knew it the three of them were standing at the entrance of the Cloud Recesses. Unfortunately they had left their invitation at the inn so with a small glare at the Lan disciple who was refusing to let them in, Wei Ying headed back down the mountain to retrieve their invitation.

He had spent some time wandering the town after getting their invitation and picked up two jars of the infamous Emperor's Smile alcohol. Wei Ying had dreamed of trying this his entire life and imagined sitting with Jiang Cheng in their room getting drunk. They weren't legal to drink yet but he also didn't know that in the three thousand rules of the Lan clan that alcohol was forbidden.

So, when he climbed back up the mountain and saw that his clan had been let in, he grinned and climbed over one of the tall white walls. With ease, he slipped over the wall and landed elegantly on the top. He was about to walk onto the roof tiles when a blinding glare shot in front of him. It was a sword glare.

With wide eyes, Wei Wuxian crouched low and held the alcohol to his chest before standing back up and looking around. On the other end of the wall was a handsome faced man in white robes and a forehead ribbon that billowed regally in the wind. Wei Ying frowned slightly as he thought the robes looked like funeral clothes; he even laughed a little when he saw the stern face to match.

"No-one can enter until morning if they arrive after curfew." the stranger stated.

Wei Ying only smirked and sat down on top of the wall, not looking at all intimidated. He looked over at the stranger and felt that the serious and cold tone was much like his soulmate's tone.

"Well it's not my fault. My clan arrived this morning but forgot our invitation. I went back down the mountain to get it, and maybe did a little sightseeing, but came straight back. I don't know the rules around here."

The male said nothing but gestured to a large stone covered in rules. Wei Ying's eyes widened and turned in shock to the stranger.

"How many? You must feel suffocated." he frowned.

"Three thousand."

"Three thousand!"

"Hm." the stranger nodded but narrowed his eyes when he saw what Wei Wuxian was carrying.

"Alcohol is forbidden in here. You must be punished."

"Hey, don't be like that. Look, how about I give you a bottle and we forget this ever happened, huh?" he smiled and held a jar in front of him. As quick as a flash, the man drew his sword and Wei Ying jumped backwards to avoid getting hit. Luckily, he caught both jars and they balanced warily in his hands. One leaned backwards slightly and Wei Ying's eyes widened.

"No!" he shouted as the jar fell onto the floor and smashed open, the delicious alcohol spilling everywhere.

"No loud noises are allowed." the stranger said solemnly.

"Seriously?" he asked as he looked with despair at the spilt alcohol. Suddenly, an idea popped into his head and he smirked at the stranger before sitting down comfortably on top of the wall.

"Fine then, I will not enter Cloud Recesses with my alcohol. I shall drink it right here and not leave until morning. I wall also drink it very quietly as I savour every last drop."

He grinned and opened the remaining jar of Emperor's Smile before taking a sip whilst maintaining eye contact with the other. The stranger frowned- which did not make his face more handsome- and glared at the alcohol.

For several minutes it was silent as Wei Wuxian drank and the stranger stared at him. The stranger found that this intruder seemed familiar but he had never seen him before in his life. The writing on his left arm tingled as he thought of his soulmate, who, from his writing, seemed lively and mischievous, and rather like the male in front of him.

He stepped closer, about to give him a punishment, but found that he didn't want to. This was really strange, he had never felt like this before.

"So, this has been fun." Wei Ying spoke, before standing up and stretching. The sleeves of his robes fell back slightly and he saw black writing on his left arm also. His eyes widened minutely as he thought the writing looked rather like his own. His arm tingled once again and Wei Ying caught him subconsciously grabbing it.

Seeing the male was rather distracted, Wei Ying jumped off the roof and began to walk away to find the guest rooms. Before he could take more than a few steps he felt something behind him. He quickly turned around and pulled out his sword. Their swords clashed and the sound echoed in the nighttime silence. Their robes flew around them and something strange happened. Wei Ying and the stranger both felt something tug in their chests and gazed at the other with shocked eyes.

"What's your name?" Wei Ying asked quietly.

"What's yours?" the other asked.

"On three?" Wei Ying suggested.

"Hm."

"Okay," he whispered nervously, "one, two, three.

"Lan Zhan."

"Wei Ying."

Their swords dropped to the floor with a crash as they looked at each other deeply, taking in everything about their soulmate. Wei Ying couldn't believe he had found his soulmate during the first 24 hours he had been here and Lan Zhan was surprised at how good looking and mischievous his was. Neither minded that they were both males and simply stepped closer to each other.

With less than a foot between them, Wei Ying spoke with a grin:

"So, we're soulmates huh?"

"Yes."

"Are you happy about that?" he asked looking down.

This was the moment he had been fearing ever since he found out about soulmates. He was terrified that Lan Zhan wouldn't want him, and slightly regretted his recent behaviour. Slightly. Lan Zhan was a little taken aback by the sudden change in attitude of Wei Ying. No longer did he seem confident and mischievous but rather scared and lost. He saw the vulnerable side that Wei Ying kept hidden from everyone else and felt more attached to him.

"Yes."

Wei Ying's eyes lit up and he tackled Lan Zhan with a hug. He felt a massive wave of relief wash over him as his fears of being unwanted swept away. He hugged Lan Zhan so tight that he could almost hear their hearts beating in time together, slightly fast. Lan Zhan wrapped his arms around Wei Ying's waist and pulled him even closer.

"Well," he pulled away but couldn't stop smiling, "I'll see you tomorrow." he said before giving Lan Zhan a wave and walking away, picking up his sword as he went. Lan Zhan watched the younger go and not once did the idea of punishing him cross his mind. He never behaved like this and being soulmates with Wei Ying felt dangerous... but exciting. Lan Zhan can't remember the last time he was this happy and excited.

He then also turned- sheathed his sword- and walked away to his room, a small smile on his handsome face.
