Hogwarts Pt.5

Voldemort was on the rise.

The rumours of his ascension to power had been spreading like wildfire for weeks and the nervous air was ever-present in the school. People were scared to be at Hogwarts, knowing that was where Voldemort wanted to hit, but it was dangerous to be anywhere else. Students' families had been torn apart by the Death Eaters or went into hiding in fear of being killed.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan were sitting together at the Ravenclaw dining table reading the latest issue of the Daily Prophet. The rule of sitting at your house table has been completely disregarded as it was time for unity and friendship to survive this living nightmare.

"Lan Zhan, my parents have joined the Death Eaters." Wei Ying spoke as he read the list of murders.

Lan Zhan said nothing but pulled his boyfriend closer by his waist and let the younger lay his head on his shoulder.

"All of these people... killed because of something as stupid as superiority. All of these murders, I can feel that my parents killed some of them. Like this couple here were muggleborns who lived a few streets away and my parents despised them..."

"They made their choice. There is nothing you can do. I'm sorry Wei Ying."

Wei Ying smiled and pressed a light kiss onto Lan Zhan's cheek. He was so grateful for Lan Zhan sticking by him all this time, without him he thought he would have succumbed to the sorrow around him.

"We may have to fight one day you know..."

"Hm."

"At least I have something to fight for."

Breakfast ended and the pair made their way to Transfiguration class. Only half of the students had returned this year and the eighth year students didn't have strict timetables so just went to whatever lessons they wanted to...

"If I run up to him, he will most definitely catch me." Wei Ying said to the small crowd of his friends as they sat in the courtyard one afternoon.

"Really?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"Definitely. I'll prove it."

The group waited in anticipation for Lan Wangji to appear in the courtyard as he was going to meet Wei Ying. About ten minutes passed before the Ravenclaw appeared from the Charms corridor.

"Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying shouted as he sprung from his seat and ran over to his boyfriend.

Without any thought, Lan Zhan dropped his bag and caught Wei Ying bridal style in his arms.

"Hi." Wei Ying grinned.

"Hello." Lan Zhan returned with a small smile, amused at his antics.

"I told you." Wei Ying boasted as he sat in Lan Zhan's lap on the bench.

The group just laughed and paid him a sickle if they lost the bet. As he sat their holding onto Lan Zhan's hand and joking with his friends, he thought that these would be the times he would miss the most...

"Wei Ying!" Lan Zhan shouted, trying to find the teen through the rubble and explosions.

He dodged spells and fired some back as he made his way through the crowd. The Death Eaters had invaded the castle and Voldemort was on his way. He was heading to DADA with Wei Ying when the castle started to shake and the windows all exploded.

Teachers ran from their classrooms screaming to get to the Great Hall and guided the younger students to safe spots in the castle. He and Wei Ying split up as Wei Ying went to find Jiang Cheng and Lan Zhan helped a bunch of Ravenclaw first years to the Great Hall.
