Wen Chao stopped his speech as he looked at who had spoken. It was Wei Ying, he was being pushed forwards to the bottom of the steps by four burly soldiers. Everyone's eyes widened as they took in his appearance. His robes were tattered, seemingly shredded by large claws, his body that was visible was covered in cuts and bruises, and his lip was bleeding heavily. There was a deep gash on his forehead and he was limping as well. The soldiers threw him down causing him to crash onto his knees. There was a small thud and some of the closer people winced.

Lan Zhan felt the thud hit him in his chest as he saw, underneath the bravery, how much pain Wei Ying was in.

"Ah, you're here. I'm glad you could join us. I hope you enjoyed your time downstairs. I hope it wasn't too ... rough?" he asked with a malicious grin and Wei Ying shook slightly in fear.

"Everybody," Wen Chao continued, "this is what happens when you 'do the right thing'," he made fake quotation marks in the air, "and as you can see it's not very rewarding. If you dare to ask what happened downstairs then I warn you, it may give you nightmares. Of course, for you Wei Wuxian, I'm sure it was a walk in the park?" he laughed before sending a harsh kick to Wei Ying's already bruised and fractured ribs which sent him to the floor. He coughed up blood and his eyes squeezed shit in excruciating pain.

"Go. I don't want to look at you."

"Same here, you greasy git." Wei Ying mumbled. Wen Chao didn't hear it but some of the teens did. They looked at Wei Ying in surprise at his bravery even after being tortured so horribly.

Wei Ying pushed his body up from the ground, forcing his palms against the stone floor, and gave a gasp as a sharp pain seared through his entire body. Slowly, he brought his legs under himself, ready to stand up, but his body couldn't cope with the movement and he fell. But just before he could hit the floor, strong arms swooped under him and lifted him into a bridal style lift.

Through his half-shut eyes he saw a handsome face and cloud patterned forehead ribbon. He sighed slightly and his head dropped onto his saviour's chest.

"Lan Zhan..." he whispered.

"Mn." Lan Zhan replied as he got a better grip of Wei Ying, trying to make him more comfortable. "I am here." he added.

The crowd made way as he carried the almost unconscious Wei Ying back to their sleeping quarters. Everybody looked at Lan Zhan with admiration as he gave a cold look to Wen Chao before walking away. Seeing his actions made them revive and they all followed him to their sleeping quarters.

Jiang Cheng walked ahead of them as they neared the sleeping quarters and pushed open the wooden door. Lan Zhan slipped through and walked over to Wei Ying's bed. He gently placed the younger onto the sheets and say down beside him. He saw Wei Ying's ragged breaths asked Jiang Cheng to get the small medicine box from the corner of the room.

With absolute care, he lifted up Wei Ying's arm, took hold of his hand, and started to transfer spiritual energy to him.

"Lan Zhan. Why-"

"Don't talk. Rest." he interrupted.

Wei Ying smiled tiredly and his eyes slipped shut. Yet he couldn't sleep as horrifying images of the beast appeared in front of him. Each injury seemed to become more painful the longer he lay there and he grabbed onto Lan Zhan's robes tensely, grit his teeth, and groaned loudly.

"It hurts..." he mumbled, the smallest noise giving him a throbbing headache.

The rest of the group walked in and gathered on the beds, looking at Wei Ying with sadness. Nie Huaisang rushed over to him and fell to his knees before crying out:
