( I think this one turned out well hope you like it 🙂)

"This is so cool!" Wei Ying exclaimed.

Jiang Cheng just huffed and pulled once more on the back of his friend's collar before he crashed into yet another tourist.

"Yeah, and it would be much cooler if I could look at it, rather than watching you like a babysitter."

"Yah, Jiang Cheng, lighten up. It's a field trip! Here we are in the most ancient temple in all of China yet you don't look excited one bit."

"History is boring." Jiang Cheng argued. "But, this place is pretty cool." he gave in a moment later after gazing all around at the ancient temple.

"Exactly, and we're only here for a day so we have to see everything!"

"We will, Wei Ying. Slow down. Let's find the class."

It was a warm summer's day and the senior class of their High School were on a field trip in celebration of finishing their exams. It was the highlight of the year and, alongside touring the temple and experiencing the traditions, there was a special tour guide for those who were chosen by the oldest resident.

"I hope I can go. I bet you get to see old paintings and ancient secrets behind the tapestries." Wei Ying imagined.

"With the way you're behaving, Professor Jin will make sure you won't be." replied Jiang Cheng.

Wei Ying just retorted that they would have to stay away from their most hated professor and instead walk around by themselves- which they were permitted to do as long as they checked in with a phone call every few hours. They picked up a map from the entrance arch, and after taking some photos, they scoured the crowd for their friend Nei Huaisang. They found him at a small stand selling ornately painted fans; after his long debate of which colour was better- blue was calming yet white serene- they just told him to get both and dragged him away, eager to start their exploring.

As soon as they walked up the small set of stairs, and entered the main courtyard of the temple, Wei Ying felt as if he had been transported to another world. If he imagined the place empty of the bustling crowds with cameras and trendy clothes, then he could see long-haired, regally robed men and women with shining swords, all moving in sync as  they practiced their swordsmanship. His eyes traced every ornate gold pattern that wove up the stone pillars, their surfaces still glistening in the sunlight even to this day. Jiang Cheng called him over to a little prayer area, and the three eagerly showed their respects, asking to have successful exam results in the coming weeks.

"I feel so calm here, even though there are people everywhere." Wei Ying announced as they stood upon a small bridge in the quieter, east side of the temple, watching the flowing river move swiftly beneath them.

"It is very spiritual." Nei Huaisang agreed. "But also very hot." he added, opening up one of his new fans and waving it quickly in front of his face.

"It's midday, want to get some lunch?" Jiang Cheng asked as the three made their way down to the clump of food stalls just beyond the front entrance.

As soon as they walked under the noble arch once more, Wei Ying immediately felt some sort of loss, a hole in his chest. He couldn't explain it; instead, he simply found himself downing his noodles quickly in order to return to their exploration.

"Hungry much?" scoffed Jiang Cheng at the way Wei Ying was eating.

"No, I just want to see more of the temple before we leave." he explained.

"We don't leave 'til it closes and that's near enough to midnight. Relax."

"I guess." Wei Ying admitted, but the unknown feeling still didn't disappear.
