"Watch out!"
Wangji spun around just in time to dive out of the way of a basilisk with its fangs out ready to kill. He threw himself to the side- managing to get a stab in the beast's side- before a boy appeared in the spot he had vacated and thrust his hands out in front of him, his eyes glowing red. A blast of bright red energy left his hands and sent the basilisk flying; it crashed into a clump of spiky trees and exploded into yellow dust. Wangji looked over to the boy to see his eyes returning to their usual deep brown, jumping up and catching him just as the boy fell to the floor.
"Thanks." they said in unison.
The pair looked at each other for a moment of gratitude before the brown-eyed boy's head fell onto Wangji's chest as he collapsed. With ease from practice, Wangji lifted the boy up into his arms and carried him up the hill and through the border. The familiar tingle of the invisible barrier washed over him as he passed through; when he walked down the hill several campers came running up to greet him.
"What happened?" a boy asked, his expression showing extreme worry.
"A basilisk. I think it was drawn to his powers."
"Well if he keeps getting stronger at the rate that he is then it won't be safe for him to leave camp."
"But he hates being stuck here all the time." a smaller boy added.
"Mn. I should take him to Wen Qing."
"Right, I'll come with you. Huaisang, tell Chiron the pair made it back in one piece."
The smaller boy nodded- showing pride at the small responsibility- before running off to the Big House to inform Chiron of the news. The other boys walked in the other direction to the Infirmary at the west side of the camp, other campers giving them a worried glance as they got on with their usual activities like arts & crafts and swordsmanship. They entered the Infirmary to see it was relatively quiet except for a blond-haired boy who had a broken arm, nothing new.
"Wen Qing?" the smaller lad called out.
"Again?"
From out of the small office walked a slim and pretty girl who was carrying a roll of bandages and a needle. She looked annoyed as she walked over to the pair, then down at the unconscious teen, but there was real concern in her eyes.
"Yeah, it was a basilisk."
"Bring him over here." Wangji layed him down on a free bed. "So did he just collapse again?"
"Mn."
"How long has been out for?" Wen Qing asked.
"About 15 minutes."
"Right, then I can wake him up easily. His body is just in shock from the use of his powers. It takes a lot out of him. Was it necessary?"
"With Wei Ying it is always necessary."
"Yes. He saved my life."
"Wow, that's a statement coming from you."
Wen Qing placed her palm on the sleeping boy's forehead and a moment later he shot up in the bed, his eyes looking around franticly and his breathing shallow.
"Hey, calm down idiot. You're fine."
Wei Ying took deep breaths to calm himself down before looking over to the boys watching him.
"If you think I'm such an idiot then why are you always here when I wake up, Jiang Cheng?" he teased.
"Ha ha." Cheng replied sarcastically. "Aren't you gonna thank him? He carried you back." he gestured to the teen next to him.
