(This one was tough to write and there is some sensitive scenes so if you are not okay with blood or harm then do not read, otherwise let's all drown ourselves in Wei Ying's sorrow together 😞)

Lotus Pier was known for being a joyful and lively sect, full of activity and mischief. But now, as the 2 Lan brothers made their way through the pier, all that greeted them was silence and a sorrowful air. It should have been a week of celebrations as the Lotus Pier had been rebuilt after the Wens invaded and so the unusual and eerie atmosphere disturbed the brothers.

Upon reaching the gates of the Jiang family home, the 2 cultivators opened the doors quickly, knowing the reason of their arrival. They made their way into the main courtyard and there stood a waiting group of people who looked full of despair. Their heads turned at the sight of the approaching footsteps and they hurried over to greet them. The situation felt urgent and so the formalities were skipped over; instead, a woman led the way to a smaller courtyard where the Jiang siblings slept.

"I am so grateful you are here. I'm worried about A-Xian." YanLi began, looking towards a set of doors to their left.

"What is the matter?" Xichen asked, following the woman's gaze.

"He won't eat, barely sleeps, rarely leaves his room. Ever since he came back from, from..."

"Ever since he came back from the Burial Mounds, he has not been his usual self." Zixuan finished for Cheng.

"And if we try and ask what is wrong he pushes us away. Please, you have to help us, it's not the Wuxian I know." pleaded Cheng.

"We shall try. I am afraid that being in a place as dark, demonic and sorrowful as the Burial Mounds will have taken a toll on his temperament. Has he told you how long he was there?" asked Xichen.

"No, he doesn't spare details. He barely speaks at all." answered YanLi.

"Let's see what we can do. Let's go, Wangji."

"Hm."

The 2 brothers made their way over to the doors and Xichen knocked on quietly. He could feel the difference in atmosphere even by taking those few steps and he could feel the pain hidden inside Young Master Wei. He knocked once more, then a third time but no response was given. He sighed before deciding to speak:

"Young Master Wei, it's Lan Xichen, can I come in?" he asked, keeping his voice calm and low.

Silence was his answer.

He looked for Wangji to try, but was surprised when his brother shook his head in response.

"It will take time. We cannot force what is not meant to be at the moment."

Xichen was taken aback by his younger brother's words of wisdom, but he understood them too. They returned to the group who were waiting anxiously; their faces showed disappointment at the lack of results.

"We have our presence known. We cannot move quick or consequences will not be good." explained Xichen.

"They we will host you here for as long as you need." YanLi offered graciously.

"Thankyou, but we cannot stay for too long. Our sect is also rebuilding."

"Can you stay at least a few days?" asked Cheng.

"Yes."

The Lans followed their hosts indoors, bidding YanLi and Zixuan goodbye as they went for an evening walk. As the three sat at a table and shared a small meal, Cheng explained how Wei Ying was when he and Wangji found him; he guessed at what he was like now.
