She looks so beautiful. Like an angel brought straight out of heaven. The white hue of her dress compliments her smooth tanned skin and the bouquet of vibrant red roses in her hand match her warm lips in color. My eyes ever leave hers as the priest talks.
After 24 years of dreaming about it, it's actually happening. Ella is finally going to become my wife. God, the prospect of spending the rest of my life with her is just... perfect.
"Do you, Drew Scott, take Elizabeth Vazquez, for your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" The priest addresses me. With a smile on my face, I respond.
"I do."
"Do you, Elizabeth Vazquez, take Drew Scott, for your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" He addresses Ella. With a smile matching mine, she responds.
"I do."
Her face is glowing with happiness as is mine. The priest blesses the rings and then gestures for me to take Ella's ring. My heart begins to race as I pick it up from the small white cushion.
"Repeat after me." The priest instructs. "Elizabeth, take this ring..."
"Elizabeth, take this ring..." I repeat.
"As a sign of my love and fidelity..."
"As a sign of my love and fidelity..." I repeat.
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." I repeat and place the ring on her ring finger.
Ella takes my ring from the small cushion and then my hand. She begins repeating what I just said.
"Drew, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." With a trembling hand she places the ring on my ring finger.
The mass continues, more blessings are said and then the moment I've been waiting for my entire life arrives.
"Drew, Elizabeth, in so much as the two of you have agreed to live together in Holy Matrimony, have promised your love for each other by these vows, the giving of these rings and the joining of your hands, I now declare you to be husband and wife." Tears of joy have welled up in her chocolate brown eyes. Tears of joy have welled up in my own eyes too.
"You may now kiss the bride."
My heart begins to race as I lean in. It just about stops beating all together as our lips meet. This is officially the happiest day of my entire life.
"Drew!" Katy's shrill voice pulls me out of the best day dream I have ever had.
"Hm?" I say still somewhat lost in my day dream. I shift my gaze from the ceiling above me to Katy's petite figure.
"Are you even listening to me?" She exclaims, hands on hips.
"Sure." I feel a pang of longing within my chest as I fall back into reality; the reality where my bride-to-be isn't Ella.
