Laney hadn't answered the Skype call the night before, she had already fallen asleep in her room at the time. That night, Faye finally found her birthmark. No one told her she had one. She was naked and about to take a shower when she saw the crescent moon right above her left breast.

Faye is woke up by her Skype ringing. She rolls out of her bed and goes to her desk, she sees Laney Marshall on the screen. Faye presses the green icon with her mouse and Laney's face appears.
"Did I wake you?" Laney asks as she notices her daughter's sloppy hair.
"Yeah, but it's okay," Faye replies after yawning. "I was waiting for you to call but it happened to be this early." She looks at the clock on her bedside table and it says 5:00am, she knows Tyler is probably working out.
"Sorry, love," Laney replies with a grin. "I'm guessing Rudy is still sleeping?"
"Yeah," Faye replies. "He's a sleepy head."
Laney chuckles. "Where'd you go?" She asks when she only sees Faye's bed.
"I'm getting dressed!" Faye calls out. "What about this curse?"
"It's terrible," Laney explains in a sad voice. "It's so painful to change."
Faye sits in front of her computer, only in a T-shirt and panties. "How often do you go through it? The change?"
"Every full moon," Laney replies. "Have you noticed any mood swings with you? Like, bipolar behavior, hot headed?"
"Sometimes," Faye replies. "Usually when I'm dumped or cheated on, I lose it, but not here lately."
"Good," Laney replies. "That's good. Our tempers aren't as bad as the Lockwood's."
"Lockwood's?" Faye asks. "What about them?"
"You should talk to Mason Lockwood, he's the only one of the family who knows," Laney says. "They have the werewolf curse, too."
"I'm dating Tyler Lockwood," Faye tells her mom.
"That's sweet," Laney coos. *...+...*
Faye is cooking breakfast while Rudy and Laney talk. Rudy has missed Laney since she left, she was the one who kept Faye somewhat safer from James. He is glad she left before James could kill her, but he sometimes wishes Faye was taken with her.
