they drifted up into the air, like magical spheres floating away in glossy forms to worlds far away from this bland one where thunderstorms and rain ruined the days. they almost looked like pretty hamster balls, going higher until popping and vanishing as if they never existed in the first place.

jungkook blew some more bubbles and watched them blow away until popping without a trace. it was kind of sad, how something so pretty can leave so fast.

that sad thought didn't last too long, not when a kiss landed on his cheek and he returned to sit beside him. "i got hot cheetos and grapes." taehyung said, sitting the bowl down and wiping his palms on the outside of his thighs.

they were sitting outside on the balcony of jungkook and namjoon apartment. it was raining today, so they couldn't go skateboarding like planned. blowing bubbles and eating snacks was a good second option. "that's a weird combination." the ravenette said.

"i couldn't make up my mind." taehyung shrugged and took a cheeto, picking another and offering it to the younger beside him.

jungkook took it of course, and then resumed blowing bubbles. they didn't last long, given the second they drifted past the safety of the roof the rain would pop them. the younger imagined the hamster balls to be floating through space, encountering an asteroid shower that was currently demolishing them. he can thank his current imaginative skills from all the cartoons he's been watching recently.

"hyung," it came out like a question, and taehyung just hummed in response. jungkook thought for a second and took another cheeto, "when can we hang out at your house?"

the older froze for a second, it was quick, but jungkook noticed. usually he was good at playing things off, not seeming phased, but taehyung wasn't really prepared for that question. he hasn't given it much thought to be honest, not thinking it would be brought up so soon and so randomly. "i don't know." he said.

taehyung didn't think he cared, he never really minded where he lived since he never really had a reason to. he couldn't help but glance into the nice apartment and cringe thinking back to his tiny tin can of a home.

"we don't have to." jungkook noticed the way he seemed off about the topic. "i was just wondering. you never really talk about home."

"that's because you're my home." taehyung smiled and leaned over, seeing the way the younger rolled his eyes but still accepting the kiss that followed. "dork." jungkook said.

the grape bowl was soon empty, and at one point taehyungs lanky legs knocked over the bubble bottle and spilled it over the balcony floor. jungkook called him a dork again except 'annoying' made an appearance in there somewhere since he couldn't picture space hamster balls anymore.

"do you really want to come over to my place?" taehyung asked once they were back inside. the rainy day made it kind of gloomy, both of the boys feeling lazy and not in the mood to do much beside eat and sit inside. taehyung was cleaning up the dishes from their snack, jungkook on the couch. "i don't mind. it was a dumb question." he said.

the older frowned, "no it wasn't." he said. "you're allowed to ask whatever you want."

"okay." jungkook was still frowning a bit.

taehyung left the dishes in the sink and walked around the counter to the living room. "i'll tell you what." he said, sitting down beside the boy and grabbing his wrist gently. jungkook was pulled into his lap easily, and that frown was wiped away quickly as a blush appeared in his cheeks and swirls in his tummy. "i'll make you dinner this weekend at my house."

jungkook eyes widened a bit, "really?" his smile brightened and he wrapped his around his hyungs neck. "what's on the menu?"

"that's a surprise." taehyung said, shaking his head and pecking the boys nose, his own smile widening when the younger giggled.

it sounded like a good idea, and in the moment with his baby smiling and giggling taehyung felt like he made a good choice. gosh he looked so excited, and so happy just to have plans with him this weekend. taehyung didn't realize how much his mind could change. how quickly the butterflies in his stomach could change to swirls of nausea as he left the apartment and walked down the hall.

the thoughts came quick, the mess in his trailer and the neighbors with the noisy kids and that odd smell that sometimes showed up out of nowhere — and that fucking bike.

taehyung pulled his hood up to keep out the rain, thankfully it slowed enough for him to leave in his skateboard and not get too soaked. his mood matched the clouds, grey and gloomy and showing no signs of clearing up anytime soon — especially not when he was on his way home. he really wanted this weekend to be good, and he really wished his guests would be gone by then. it might have been mean to think that way of family, but taehyung couldn't bring himself to think that way of them.

family were people that were there for you when you needed them, not just when they needed something from you. family were meant to show they cared at all times and not just for their own benefit.

jungkook was family. even namjoon and jimin were family. taehyung even considered jin to be more family to him than his own mother and half brother.

the bike was still there when taehyung walked through the muddy trailer park. he was carrying his skateboard and frowned at the sight, already wanting to go back to the little ravenettes home. he knows he told yoonha she had two weeks to find her own place. taehyung isn't quite sure how he was going to enforce that threat, if he would actually kick her out.

he knew he had to, or else she'd never take him seriously and just continue to use him. taehyung pushed open the trailer door and saw the lights on. she must have still been awake.

"tae honey!" yoonha came walking from the back bedroom. "i was looking for some flashlights or candles in case the power went out but it looks like it's clearing up outside." she said.

"what are those." he pointed at the couch, seeing decorative pillows on the cushions. they were yellow and orange, a mess of color and fabric that looked like they belonged anywhere but here.

yoonha smiled and picked one up, "aren't they adorable? you needed some color in here it's so bland." she said. "and they're soft."

taehyung just grunted, some form of a response that only solidified the mood he was in. the bruises on his knuckles had just started to heal well, a yellowish color that kind of looked like those pillows — ugly. he knows he can't do that anymore, especially after jungkook noticed how beat up they looked. the way he frowned, and kissed them, and colored on some more bandaids with a purple marker for them.

no more punching. taehyung repeated those words through his mind as he walked to his room and ignored the lady.

"you need to leave this weekend." he said after leaving his things in his room and walking back out. "i have plans."

"oh, like private plans? is it a girl?" it's like she was trying to have some bonding gossip talk with her son, sitting on the couch and smiling with complete interest.

taehyungs frown just deepened and her shook his head. "no." he scoffed. so much for paying attention about anything yoonha. "just go, or i'll call your husband to find you some place else to stay." he said.

that seemed to shut her up well. bringing that man up was never good especially when there were moments like now where she was ditching him until she needed money. normally she waited until he reached out first, that way she had some leverage.

it was sick and messed up, everything taehyung hated and didn't want around. his index finger traced his knuckles, pressing into the bruises and closing his eyes at the slight pain.

sometimes pain is a good distraction from the things that hurt more.
