I gulped as my shoulders quivered and knees buckled. I opened my eyes and looked down the depth that lied right in front of me. The waves of the water seemed so calm and comfortable from up where I was standing in the humid air.I took in a deep breath and narrowed my eyes at the several meters long distance and thought with determination, "Nothing is going to stand in my way. I am going to come out of all this with a crown on my head".
If you are thinking that this is a newer version of the story 'The woodcutter and the River fairy', then you will be disappointed once you finish reading this because not only had I not lost anything but also there was no fairy who would have asked me several questions just to give me materials of intrinsic value for my honesty.
All there was, was me, the obstacle, my fearfulness and my will to overcome the obstacle. So yes, I inhaled a deep breath and leaped from the edge.
The splash and its sound felt like heaven. When I surfaced above the water, I shook the water off my head and smiled at my accomplishment; despite my fear of the fall I had jumped and the cool water had refreshed me to the very core.
But what I did not see was a tidal wave coming towards me.
Well, this is what life is, right?
