Chapter 38

Auld Lang Syne

Days passed and everyday felt so dull.

Phoenix' dad asked him to go with him to Los Angeles, where his brother currently resides, to celebrate the New Year there. He was adamant on not going and escaping his guards but this time, even Mang Dario agrees with me that he has to at least give his father a chance lalo na't iniwan niya ito sa mansion nilang mag-isa noong pasko.

Naging dahilan din ito ng away namin. He really didn't wanna go and told me he wanted to stay here and celebrate with me instead. Hindi naman ako pumayag. Wala na rin naman siyang nagawa dahil kahit si Mang Dario pati na ang anak niya ay kampi sa akin.

He didn't contact me for about two days. Ngunit siya rin naman ang hindi nakatiis at kinontact rin ako agad.

Tawang-tawa pa ako sa itsura niya nang magvideo call kami. He was just pouting the whole time.

Hindi ko man sinasabi sa kanya ay namimiss ko na ang presensya niya. My days came back to being boring as hell without him.

I was brought back to reality when someone knocked on the door.

"Ate?" I heard Saffron call out from the other side of the door. "Can I come in?" Dagdag niya. Pinagbuksan ko naman siya. She had a sullen expression on her face.

"Why?" I asked, suddenly worried about her expression. She looked at me then fidgeted.

"Dad, kind of invited people over without mom's consent. Now they're kind of arguing," she said, looking uncertain.

I looked at her worriedly.

I was blessed to have parents who do not argue as much. They would have little misunderstandings here and there but they knew how to work it out at the end of the day but still, I feel queasy whenever they fight.

"They'll work it out," I said, trying to not only convince Saffron, but also myself.

"Sino ba ang mga bisitang iyon?" I asked. She bit her lower lip, as if unsure if she wants to tell me. Nagkaroon ako ng ideya base sa reaksyon niya kung sino ang mga hindi inaasahang panauhin. Sinagot niya ako at kinumpirma ang aking mga hinala. 

"Sila Tita Lorena," she said. Napabuga ako sa hangin.

Not that I hate that family, I just can't stand them when they suddenly bring up how compatible Winter and I are as if Winter was single.

I just shook my head and thought of positive things. Wala naman sigurong masamang mangyayari diba kung makicelebrate sila sa amin 'di ba? It's New Year's Day after all!

What could go wrong?

"I'm sure mom and dad can handle their misunderstanding. Go prepare now, Saffron," sabi ko. She just nodded and went back to her room.

I closed the door of my room and sighed.

I have to prepare too.

Pilit kong inalis sa aking isipan ang pag-aaway ng aking mga magulang at ang pagdating ng mga bisitang hindi inaasahan.

I took a quick bath just to freshen up. I went to my closet after and chose an outfit for tonight's event.

Kumuha nalang ako ng maroon off-shoulder dress na pormal. I parted my hair in the middle and tied it into a tight low ponytail. I grabbed a red lipstick and dabbed it on my lips. I was careful not to overdo it. Iyong tama lang. I paired the look with a pair of three-inch black strappy heels.
