Melanie wakes up beside a snoring Calum. His beathing is slow and steady, with an arm draped over Mel's side. She takes a moment to admire how peaceful- happy, even- he looks. It's seven in the morning and the couple (in Calum's eyes, at least) need to be back on the road by ten.

Melanie shakes Calum's arm, saying his name until he begins to wake up. "Come on, you need to get up." Calum groans as he rolls away from Melanie, pulling the covers over his shoulders. "Cal, we need to be checked out by nine fourty, get up."

"Five more minutes." Sighing in defeat, Melanie leaves the bed to grab her clothes for the day. She walks quietly, not wanting to wake the sleeping boy, but that doesn't stop her from going into his suitcase to grab something to wear.

She doesn't really think about what she chooses- only that it's clean. Her suitcase is laid beside his, and she quickly opens it to grab a pair of jeans before retreating into the bathroom to get ready.

Calum wakes soon after. With a quick stretch, he goes to his suitcase that has been lazily left open to pull a singlet out.

He tugs the thin top over his head- sweatpants clad on his waist- and knocks the bathroom door twice, that Melanie has left half-open.

He steps in, and smiles at the girl who has a toothbrush in her mouth. "Morning, Mel." She mumbles an indistinct word that Cal can only assume is her greeting him back. "Is that my shirt?" he raised an eyebrow. "And boxers?"

Melanie lets out a light laugh with a smile. "The room was too hot last night and I didn't have any shorts."

Calum rolls his eyes as he grabs his toothbrush. "Cute."

"I could've sworn you told me that you hated this brand." Mel suggests as she points to the underwear on her thighs.

"I do, but I got them on sale;" Melanie nods, understanding that Calum had at least somewhat of a good reason. "Plus, I don't hate you."

She only shakes her head, trying to ignore any flirtatious things he may say.

"So we're finally going home?" Melanie asks as Calum pulls onto a familiar highway.

"It sucks, I know." He sighs, changing the radio station as it had begun to broadcast commercials.

Melanie sighs in agreement, but nods. "I had fun."

Calum smiles contently, knowing that the past two months had been the time of his life. "As did I, love."

Melanie doesn't respond, but rather takes a minute to mull over the nicknames Calum had given her. Heck, they weren't even nicknames; they came across more as coupley petnames. As sweet as Melanie had found it, it confused her.

Yes, a lot had happened between the pair (the roadtrip partially at fault, the past few days), but Melanie had never indicated that she wanted to be in a relationship with him. Okay, perhaps she implied it at Calum's house, but that had been two and a half months prior.

Feelings change, feelings come and go. And though Melanie never had too much of a dip or increase in the way she felt toward Calum, the one thing that was stopping her from potentially going out with him was the fact that no matter what they did, she could never feel a spark.

There were no fireworks. No electricity traveling through her veins whenever they kissed. It was just... a thing. A thing, more specifically, that was casual, friendly even.

Not long back, Melanie discussed the whole no-spark ordeal with Luke. Her mind was filled with potential reasoning at the time: she was still mad at him, the spark thing was simply a rumor, heck- she even spent a second trying to recall a spark with Michael.

She found it foolish to keep worrying over such a small predicament, but who could blame her? She had only kissed two boys in her lifetime, so who was to say that neither of them held the spark she so desperately desired, if it even existed?

"We're here." Calum's words pull Melanie away from her thoughts and to a gaze of the front of her house. "Do you need help with your suitcase or anything?"

Melanie shakes her head, the thought that she had suggested to herself- for the second time- that her spark could be found within Michael Clifford, of all people, still fresh in her brain. It was a ludicrous thought to have been had, which she was aware of, but yet it continued to pound against her rational thoughts as it replaced them with confusion and worry.

A pout forms on Calum's lips. "Are you sure? You seem a bit shaken up about something."

Melanie shakes her head and assures him that she has everything under control, but Calum still follows her out of the car and to the trunk, just to make sure she gets into her house alright after retrieving her belongings. "Thanks for agreeing to spend the last two months of break with me."

Melanie smiles as she closes the trunk in a hard, swift movement. "Thanks for taking me with you." Calum bites his lip, and smiles back at Mel.

Placing a hand on her shoulder, Calum leans to kiss Melanie. She hesitates, only to step to the side and peck Calum's cheek. "I'll, um," She's beyond flustered. "I see you later?"

Calum nods, not fully getting why Melanie rejected him (as if Melanie had any understanding of it either). "Yeah."
