"This is beautiful Hunter," you say as you smile and stare at the Nashville skyline. It turns out that Hunter was taking you to a fancy restaurant in Nashville that allows you to have dinner on a rooftop. You've wanted to come to this restaurant for a while now.
"I'm happy that you like it," he says, holding a glass of sparkling cider in his hand. "I love it," you say, turning your attention back to him.
He smiles and stares at you for a while, completely silent. The burning candle sitting on the middle of the table makes his eyes look ten times brighter and beautiful than they already are.
"I love you," he says randomly. Well that kinda came out of nowhere. "I love you too Hunter," you say with a smile. "So listen...I have to get back on the road tomorrow so we can finish up the tour..." he begins. Your smile fades and you start to feel the sadness that you felt earlier come back. You love Hunter and you totally support his career, but it's just that you hate the fact that he has to leave. "But I just wanted to tell you something..." He finishes.
"Okay...what is it?" You ask. "I want you to come on the road with me," he says. You sit there, speechless once again. "I know that it's probably a lot to ask you to drop what you're doing and come on the road with me, but I just miss you a lot. I've been stressing out a lot lately. I enjoy being on the road and playing shows, but I miss seeing you in the audience at every show singing along and I miss holding you every single night."
"I miss that too Hunter," you say. "We're only going to be on tour for another month, and I know that that's not really a very long time...but I don't know if I could really go another day without you by my side. I was thinking about taking a break after the tour for a little while so that we could spend some more time together..." he says.
"You would do that?" You ask, your eyes starting to get watery. "Of course I would. Why wouldn't I?" He replies. "I don't know. Music is just the thing you love and I know that it's really hard for you to stay away from it," you say.
He sits his glass down and reaches across the table and grabs your hand. "I love music...but music is not my everything. It was. You are my everything and trust me, it is ten times harder for me to stay away from you than it is for me to stay away from music."
You blush and look away for away for a second.
"I got you something for our anniversary," he says, releasing your hand and reaching under the table to grab the box that you saw him bring into the restaurant earlier. He gets up and walks over to you, kneeling by your side and handing you the gift.
You open the box and see a giant book with your name engraved on it. "Oh my god," you say as you open the book and start flipping through the pages. "Are these---"
"Songs about you? Yeah they are," he says with a smile. "Holy crap Hunter. This book is ginormous..." you say as you continue to flip through the pages. "That's because I've been writing it in for years. I wrote the first song when I first saw you and then I recently wrote a song about you while I was on the road. There's no more space to write anymore songs in there so I wanted to give it to you," he says.
You close the book and look at him. "Why?"
"Because I want you to remember that I'm always thinking about you. There's never a day that goes by where you're not on my mind. I love you and you are my inspiration and I swear that there will be a million other books like this with songs about you in it," he says.
Suddenly, you grab Hunter by his shirt and pull him up, putting your lips on his. "I love you," you say as you pull away.
"I love you more," he says. "And hey, does this mean that you're going to come on the road with me?"
"Yes it means that I'm going to come on the road with you," you say with a laugh.
After saying thank you a million times and attacking you with kisses, Hunter sits down and you both enjoy your food and have conversation about plans after the tour until it starts to get late.
"Are you almost ready to go?" You ask. "Almost," he replies. He grabs his phone and stands up. "We can't leave until you dance with me."
He turns his phone on and starts playing Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. He does some weird spinning move and almost trips, but fortunately he catches himself before he falls. "Very classy Hayes! Very classy!" You say with a laugh. "Let's just act like that didn't happen, okay?" He says, laughing and grabbing your hand, pulling you out of your seat. You wrap your arms around his neck and he wraps his arms around your waist and you both sway side to side as you dance along to your favorite song.
When the song is over, you and Hunter are so zoned out that you barely even notice. Or you probably don't care. It's your wedding anniversary and you're with the love of your life, and that's all that matters.
"Hey Courtney," Hunter says softly. You lift your head up so you can look at him and he puts his lips on yours, kissing you passionately. "Happy anniversary baby."
