You're sitting in a booth at TGI Fridays, waiting for Shane to show up. He was supposed to be here about an hour ago, so the fact that he's late is putting you in a bad mood. You've already ordered a few drinks and appetizers while you wait for him.
You pull out your phone and start texting Hunter to see how he's doing. After all, you haven't heard from him since he dropped you off and it seemed like he wasn't in a very good mood.
While you're in the middle of texting, someone taps your shoulder. You look up and see Shane standing in front of you with his arms open for a hug. You're in a crappy mood because you've been sitting there for a while, so you don't really feel like hugging him. But since you don't want to be rude, you give him a hug.
"Did you miss me?" He says, sitting down across from you. "Somewhat," you reply.
He still looks the same, but something about him just seems off. You don't know what it is yet.
He starts asking you questions about how life is in Nashville, and then he starts talking about himself and his success in his job and a bunch of other boring things. You know what the problem is. He's not the same. He's arrogant and self-centered. Back then he used to be really nice, but now he's just a complete jerk.
"And so yeah I guess you could say that I'm a successful---"
"Shane! Shut up!" You snap your fingers. "You've been going on and on about yourself and your job for the past hour and a half! Talk about something else!"
He seems shocked at first and looks away from you. He's probably not used to people talking to him like that and he's probably mad at you, but you could care less.
He clears his throat. "Anyhow...I have something that I've been wanting to tell you for a while now."
"What?" You ask, you're irritated by his voice now. "Well...I like you. I've always liked you and I think that you should consider going out with me one day," he says.
You laugh so hard you're sure that everyone in the restaurant can hear you. It takes you forever to stop laughing and catch your breath.
"Is something funny?" He asks. "Holy crap! Yes it is! The fact that you actually think that I would want to go out with you is hilarious to me!" You reply. "Why wouldn't you want to go out with me?" He asks, clearly offended.
"Who would want to go out with you?" You take a sip of your iced tea. "I could name a million different reasons why I wouldn't want to go out with you."
"And I think that one of those reasons are Hunter..." he says.
You sit your iced tea down and stare at him. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me. Obviously you and him have a thing going on. There are pictures of you and him hanging out all over Instagram and you're ALWAYS at his concerts. It's pretty clear that you're into him, but I honestly I don't know why. I mean sure he can play over thirty instruments, but he can't sing, all he focuses on is music, he's a complete geek, and don't even get me started on his height. I don't even know why he's famous. Are you sure that he's---"
You cut him off by throwing your iced tea in his face and leaning over the table and grabbing him by his shirt. Now you're totally ticked off. "Don't EVER talk about my best friend like that AGAIN. Hunter is the most talented, sweetest person on this earth and he deserves every bit of success he's received. He's twice the man you are and I'm one hundred percent sure that he'll find someone and you'll die lonely because you absolutely suck. You talk about him because you wish that you could be him. But you will NEVER be as amazing as he is, and you will NEVER be my friend again."
You lean back and grab your purse. "Oh and do me a favor? Lose my number."
You get out of your seat and point to the bill on the table. "Have fun paying the bill you jerk!"
And with that you walk out of the restaurant.
