" Could someone give me a solution to this problem?" Mrs. Raines asked the class.
" Have you gotten the solution?" Chelsea asked me.
" I am done, wait. I am almost done." I replied cancelling the wrong calculation i had written down.
" What exactly is the question?" I was getting confused over a simple word problem.
" A motorist travels for 30km at xkm/h and for 90km at ykm/h and takes 2 and a half hours for his journey. If the speeds are interchanged, the journey takes 2 and one over six hours, so you would have to find x and y."
" 2 and one over six?" I frowned at her as she just shrugged.
" um, wait a minute. I think i got it. X ...... 62 and y is 45." I said checking my calculations to see if i was wrong somewhere.
" Are you sure?" Chelsea was more concerned about being the first person to shout out the answer.
" No. X is 60 and y is 45." I said after correcting my work.
" 60 and 45. 45 and 60." Chelsea and Jamal said at the same time.
" Both of you are right but next time, be more definite. X is 60 and y is 45." Mrs. Raines said as the bell rang.
" You should try to work on that thing we just did. It is not difficult." I said to Chelsea after a while as we walked out of the class.
" I know but i have not found time to figure that out."
" I can teach you if you want me to."
" Nope. Thank you. I kind of have a tutor." She replied. That was shocking. And i didn't know about it. I dragged her out of the hall to the big tree beside the school.
" A what? When was that and who. Why didn't you tell me."
" I didn't need to tell you. You would freak out." She turned to me.
" Oh come on. Spit it out already and how long has this been happening."
" Mrs. Raines told Jamal to teach me math since my grades are not good enough and you are preparing for that math quiz in a few weeks. You are meant to practice with Aiden, remember?"
" What math quiz." I was so confused.
" So you don't know about the math quiz. How would you be selected for a quiz you don't know about."
" Wow. Now i have to study with Aiden. Isn't this getting worse daily?"
" You might have been too focused on the dance universe. Don't you know you are an extraordinary kid?" Chelsea tried to change the topic.
" Oh please, spare me the sermon. Why did you hide it from me. Why did you think i would freak out because you like Jamal. I am not your mum."
" I never said i liked Jamal."
" Oh please. I am very sure you gladly accepted the offer and do you think i forgot about how you were looking at him the other day at the cafeteria. When did it all start." I said.
" Now, you have gone crazy." She said and looked at her novel.
" You really don't want to tell me. How about Mrs. McClain hears her daughter has a boyfriend and even her best friend didn't know about it. You know she would believe me and you would be in so much trouble. I admire how over protective she can be some times."
" Okay! Okay."
" I am listening." I sounded so petty.
" We do have chemistry practicals together so we talk once in a while."
