A X Date X To X Remember

~6 months later~

    Leorio adjusted his tie, taking a big gulp. Why do these still make him nervous? Abby was sitting across from him, looking beautiful in her pale blue, flowing dress, her short blonde hair at her shoulders. They had moved in together only a month earlier, and started dating shortly after.
    They were sitting across from each other at a small cafe, waiting for their lunch. "So..." Leorio started, "I feel like we've known each other for a while now, and I was, ummm, wondering what exactly happened with your ex."
    Abby's eyes widened, then looked away quickly. "Well, we were high school sweethearts. He was a normal boyfriend during school, probably because he had football to let his anger out."
    ''So, you dated the football star." Leorio teased, wiggling his eyebrows. Abby just glared for a second, then teased back, sticking her nose up. "I guess you don't want to hear the rest."
    "Pleaseeeeeeeeeee!" Leorio begged, clasping his hands together. They laughed before continuing.
    "Okay, fine. Anyways, after graduation we got an apartment together. He started to get angry at anything I did." She paused, shuddering at the memory. "One night, he came home from work, screaming at me. I had made the wrong thing for dinner, so he threw the scissors at me because they were the closest thing to him." She sighed.
    "You don't have to continue," Leorio sympathetically said. "I was just making conversation."
    Abby shook her head. "No, you're my boyfriend, I can trust you. Plus, I really need to get this off my chest." She continued on, "He said he was going to go get food elsewhere, and that by the time he got back I should have everything cleaned up. The cut was pretty deep though, so I just got an old dish towel and wrapped it around my arm to slow the bleeding. Then I started cleaning. His sister, Ella showed up. She was coming for dinner that night and decided to come early. She saw my arm and the blood...and she just screamed. I tried to quiet her down so no one heard her, but soon my neighbors were knocking on the door to see what was going on. I told them everything was fine, but Ella let them in. Before I knew it I was in her car and off to the hospital. While I was there, Ella just sat next to me until I was ready to talk. Once I told her what had happened, she made me call him to break up with him. I did what she said, and she went to pack all my stuff up. I stayed at her place until I got back on my feet. She's my best friend now." She finished with a smile.
    "Wow," He whispered. "I promise I would never do that to you." She just smiled at him, implying that she knew that.
    They were interrupted by the waitress, bringing their food. They had both ordered salad, to make up for the fact they got so many deserts. "Anything else?" The waitress asked, sounding unamused. Both shook their heads.
    "So, since we're talking about exes, how did you and Kurapika meet?" Abby asked lightly, knowing how hard the break was for Leorio.
    "Well, I think we tried to kill each other on a boat." Leorio laughed at the memory. "I brought up something about his clan, and then he wouldn't call me Mr.Leorio like I asked."
    Abby laughed, picturing Leorio yelling over someone simply calling him Leorio.
They finished eating, emptying their plates. "Well, shall we go, Mr.Leorio?" Abby laughed, emphasizing the mister.
    Leorio just rolled his eyes and took her hand shielding his eyes from the bright sun as they started their long journey home.

    Kurapika stretched his back after hours of studying. His motivation has not yet fizzled because of the emotional pain of Leorio, and he didn't intend on letting it. Sure, he was a big part of his life, but he can't get distracted. Not now that he is so close to becoming an investigator. Not now that he is so close to finding the people who murdered his family.
    He got up to get a glass of water, and saw something crawling on the counter. He trembled realizing what it was. "Sp-sp-spider!" He yelled, jumping back. "Le-" He cut himself off remembering Leorio is gone. He grabbed his coat and keys, leaving the apartment.
