Abby woke up in a cold sweat. She knew something wasn't right, but she couldn't put her finger on whatever it was.
Abby sat there in the dark, trying to catch her breath. She searched the room, trying to find things familiar. She spotted a necklace, the one Leorio had given her for their one year anniversary.
Abby climbed out of bad and grabbed the necklace, fingering the latch that she knew held a picture of them. In the picture the two stood, Leorio with his arm around Abby's shoulders and fireworks going off in the background.
Tears began to fall from Abby's eyes. She knew what was wrong. Leorio was here, with her, while Kurapika sat alone in that house. She had removed all the razors, but it was just a quick trip to the store. Leorio should be there with Kurapika, be there to hold him tight.
And she was the one holding him back.
Abby sunk to the floor, holding the necklace close to her heart. She loved Leorio, but Kurapika needed him more than she did. It would hurt, but she'd get over it. Nothing she hadn't done before, right?
Leorio stirred, reaching for Abby's spot on the bed. Abby wanted to cuddle with him one more time, but she knew it would only make things worse. Instead she got up and whispered in his ear. "Go back to sleep." She covered Leorio up, for he had pushed the blankets down. She stroked his hair for a minute before going into the kitchen.
She made herself some tea and turned on the news. The clock read 4:00 a.m., so the news would just be beginning.
After about an hour of sitting Abby decided to go for a run to clear her head. She got on a pair of leggings and a light sweatshirt before leaving the apartment. She left a note for Leorio, telling him she'd be back soon, but she doubted he'd wake up before she got back.
Putting in her earbuds and started her music Abby began running. After about a mile she zoned out completely. She knew the route by heart, and could do it in her sleep. She closed her eyes and let the cool breeze blow against her face. Her hair flew out behind her, flapping against her back with every step.
By the time Abby felt better and had stopped running it was light out. The app on her phone said she had run 10.3 miles in two hours. She smiled. At this rate, she'd be ready for the half marathon next month.
When Abby got back in the apartment Leorio was still asleep. Abby went to find an outfit for the day. She decided on a pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a light pink cropped tank.
By the time Abby got out of the shower Leorio was awake. Well, not really awake. He stood in the hallway, rubbing his eyes like a little kid. Abby laughed at him. He looked so adorable with his messy hair and baggy pajama pants. His shirt was wrinkled, and he could barely open his eyes.
"Morning sleepyhead!" Abby called as she began to make him breakfast.
"Morning." Leorio grumbled, collapsing into a chair. He yawned, making Abby yawn as well.
"How can you wake up so early?" Leorio wailed, hitting his head on the table.
"I don't know. Anyways, here." Abby slid a plate of eggs and bacon in front of him.
"How are you so happy right now?" Leorio asked, looking her over. His eyes widened as he realized she had gone for a run. "You went for a run, didn't you?" He searched her face.
"Yeah....why?" She asked, clearly not getting what Leorio was hinting at.
"Abby! You have a concussion! You can't do that!" Leorio yelled quietly so he wouldn't hurt her head more.
Abby's eyes widened as she realized Leorio was right. She was so used to just waking up and going for a run to clear her head that she had forgotten about her concussion.
"Abby," Leorio whispered, standing up to put his arms around her. "How far did you go?" He asked, sincerely worried.
Abby bit her lip. "It wasn't that far!" She lied.
"Abby. Tell me the truth. How far did you go?"
"A little over ten miles." She whispered. Thinking back now, her head did hurt as she ran before she had zoned out.
Leorio shook his head. "You can't do that. Now, go lay down and I'll bring you some medicine." Leorio nudged Abby towards their room.
"Fine." Abby sighed as she headed towards the room. She flopped into the bed, bringing Leorio's pillow close to her as a child might with a stuffed animal.
After Leorio gave her the medicine Abby cried. She cried until she fell asleep, her head pounding. She didn't want to, but she knew she had to break up with Leorio, and soon. The longer she waits the harder it will be. Leorio deserves better, he deserves Kurapika.
And she's the one standing in their way.Hey guys! Thanks for reading! We're at 130 votes, and honestly I didn't think I'd get any! Thank you guys so much!!!
