Leorio had been living in his apartment for about a week when Kurapika decided to stop by. It was about noon, but it was very cold outside.
"Hey! What's up?" Leorio called from the living room as Kurapika slammed the door behind him, thankful to be out of the cold.
"Hey! Just wanted to stop by. I haven't seen you in a while!" Kurapika smiled as he stomped the snow off his shoes and removed his coat.
Kurapika walked in, plopping down on the couch next to Leorio. "Brrrrrrrr!" Kurapika shuddered, crossing his arms to warm himself up. "It's cold out there!"
"Well no duh!" Leorio yelled, making Kurapika laugh. The two sat there, watching as cartoons flashed across the screen.
"I'm hungry, you want anything?" Leorio asked, prying himself off the couch.
"No, I'm good. Thank you though." Kurapika got up and followed Leorio anyway to keep him company.
"I don't even know what I have. I've been living off of ramen all week." Leorio laughed as he opened one cupboard, then another.
"Well, I have brownies!" Leorio smiled, pulling a box out of the cupboard, grinning.
Kurapika winced, not sure how to be kind. "Leorio," he began, putting his hand on Leorio's shoulder. "You can't cook. You know this!" Both of them broke out laughing, doubling over with pain.
"Well, I can try!" Leorio declared, raising one hand in the air. This caused another laughing fit.
"Fine. But make sure to have the fire department on speed dial.
"Don't worry, they already are." Leorio smiled as he began to read the directions out loud. "Two eggs, two thirds oil, one fourth water, oven at 350 degrees fahrenheit. Seems easy enough, right?" Leorio beamed. Kurapika suppressed another laugh.
"Well, let's get started!" Kurapika walked over to Leorio's room, pulling out one of his old shirts from the dresser. "Can I wear this?" Kurapika asked, holding the shirt up against his body. It went down to his knees.
"Yeah, go ahead. I don't wear that anymore, you can keep it if you'd like." Kurapika blushed at Leorio's offer, and once Leorio noticed this, he began to blush as well.
Kurapika pulled the shirt over his head. The shirt hung down to his knees, and he looked like a little kid.
Leorio clapped his hands and began grabbing the things he needed. Once everything he needed was laying on the table is when Leorio began to feel uneasy. Cooking was not his strong suit, and it made him think of Abby. Everything was still fresh, but he knew he needed to move on.
"Well, let's start then!" Leorio started cracking eggs into a bowl, and Kurapika stood and watched. Leorio and Kurapika were both unaware of the many pieces of shells falling into the bowl.
Kurapika then grabbed a bigger bowl and began pouring in the powdery mix. He coughed as a cloud of the stuff flew up at his face.
"You okay?" Leorio asked, throwing the egg shells away.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Kurapika couged, waving his hand in the air to get the particles out of the way. Leorio laughed.
Kurapika and leorio then began to add the water and oil, not bothering to use measuring cups.
Kurapika poured the oil as Leorio carried the bowl over to the sink. He then turned on the faucet, estimating how much would be a fourth of a cup.
Then Kurapika added the eggs, still not noticing the bits of shell in them.
"Think we should use this?" Leorio asked, holding up an electric mixer. Kurapika nodded, pouring the contents of the bowl into the bowl used with the mixer.
"There we go!" Kurapika smiled, putting the bowl in its place. Leorio then turned the mixer on high, sending brownie mix everywhere. The two screamed, covering their faces with their arms.
"Turn it off!" Kurapika yelled to Leorio, chuckling lightly.
"I'm trying!" Leorio called back, acting like he was in a horrible storm, and struggling to move forward. "Almost.....there!" He exclaimed, finally pressing the off button.
The two laughed as they examined the kitchen, now covered in brownie batter. "It'll be fine, right?" Leorio asked, still laughing at what was now the kitchen.
"Yeah, it should be fine." Kurapika shrugged, pouring what was left of the mixture into a pan and shoving it into the oven. The two then began to clean, not bothering to set a timer.
The room was finally cleaned after an hour. By that time though, the two had forgotten all about the brownies.
Kurapika heard the door open and was immediately on his feet to see who it was. Of course, it was only Abby.
"Hey guys!" She called, taking off her jacket and shoes. "Is something burning?" She asked, sniffing the air.
"Damn it!" Leorio yelled, rushing to the kitchen. "I completely forgot!" Leorio swore some more as he pulled the pan out of the oven, forgetting to use something to protect his hands. He screamed and dropped the pan, rushing to cool his burns. Abby rushed in and put the pan in a rack, trying to clear the smoke. Kurapika helped Leorio with his hands, trying his best to stop the stream of curses leaving Leorio's mouth.
"What is going on?" Abby asked once Leorio had calmed down a bit.
Kurapika and Leorio slunk back against the wall, ashamed of what had happened. "Nothing." They said in unison.
Abby rolled her eyes. "Obviously something happened, and I want to know what." She put her hands on her hips and stared at the boys in front of her.
After about a minute of this, Leorio caves. "We were hungry so we tried to make brownies. Then, when we tried to mix it, the batter went everywhere! We kinda sorta forgot about the brownies while we cleaned." Leorio spewed, forgetting to breathe. He gasped as he caught his breath.
Abby sighed and shook her head, pitying the two children in front of her. "Are you still hungry?" She asked, beginning to search through Leorio's cupboards.
"Yes!" Leorio called, bouncing up like a puppy. "Please?" He asked, giving her his best puppy dog eyes.
"You have to promise me you'll be good from now on!" Abby teased, beginning to laugh.
Leorio nodded as Kurapika watched from his corner. He smiled at how easily the two still got along.
"You have nothing! Do you starve yourself or what?" Abby yelled at Leorio, motioning to the empty cupboards.
"No. I eat ramen!" Leorio declared, smiling.
Abby rolled her eyes. "Well then. We're going to the store, now! Let's go!" She grabbed Leorio and Kurapika's wrists and dragged them to the door.
"Now, if you're good at the store I'll get you both some candy!" Abby smiled as she led the two out the door into the cold.Hey guys! Thanks for reading! Don't forget to vote and comment! I love reading your comments, they keep me going through school! Thanks!
