As Kurapika sat, he listened to the love songs playing in the bar. It made him feel even worse for what he did to Leorio.
'Leorio, he was so good to me' he thought over and over again. 'How could I have let him down.' Kurapika pondered going back to the apartment, but was afraid of what he'd find. So instead he sat in that bar until closing time.
Leorio and Abby drove in silence, scanning the roads and sidewalks for Kurapika, Leorio's stomach growling as they went.
"We could stop for food." Abby began, "I mean, if you would like to..." she trailed off.
"We could, but that would delay us finding him." Leorio pointed out.
"Well, he could have gone into a bar, looking for shelter. It's kind of cold out, and we have his coat." Abby suggests.
"Fine. But if he's not in there we will be getting back in the car as soon as our food comes out. Got it?" Leorio asked.
Abby nodded. She would like to sit in a bar for a bit. It's been a long day for all of them. Maybe a drink could do some good.
Leorio neared the shipyard. This is where his adventure had begun. This is where Kurapika boarded the boat they met on.
Leorio's chest tightened, remembering the good times with Kurapika, and the bad ones too.
There were two bars here. One to the left, closer to the shipyard, one to the right, a little ways down the street.
"Which one?" Asked Leorio.
"How about that one," she pointed to the one on the left. "Kurapika would want to go into the one that looks cleaner, trying to avoid spiders, right?"
"You have a point. Let's go." Leorio admitted defeat as he parked the car and took Abby's arm, leading her towards the door.
As the couple walked in, a bell rang above the door. It wasn't busy tonight, so a bartender was free. As the couple sat she was already asking what they wanted.
"Whiskey old fashion." Leorio told her.
"I'll just have a PBR." Abby nodded.
As love songs played, Leorio looked at the counter they sat at. All he wanted was his best friend back. For him to stop harming himself.
Kurapika looked up as the bell rang. 'Oh great." He thought as he saw Abby and Leorio walk in. Lucky for him they sat on the other end on the bar.
"Oh Leorio, this is all my fault!" Abby sobbed, "I should have just kept running, maybe I would have caught him! I can see the pain in your eyes when you talk about him. You miss him, a lot." Abby looked at Leorio, hoping for him to disagree, to tell her she was wrong. Somehow, she knew she wasn't.
"I do miss him. He's my best friend." Leorio's voice was cracking. "I've known him for so long. I know everything about him. Well, I thought I did." Leorio dipped his head, tears in his eyes once more. "And no, it is not your fault. It's mine. I yelled at him, made him run. For all I know he could be dead by now. It's not like he's never thought of it before!"
Kurapika listened as the couple sobbed, knowing he had hurt them. He just wasn't ready to face them yet. Now that he knew they were out of the apartment, he could go back. He could wait there until they go back to their home.
Time Skip 9:48 P.M.
Leorio and Abby took their food out to the car. As soon as Kurapika saw the headlights turn around the corner, he left. He was so hungry. As he walked through the mist to the apartment, he thought about his recurring nightmare about Leorio. 'What does it mean? Do I still have feelings for him? I shouldn't, he has a girlfriend. He's moved on.' He looked up, seeing the building he ran out of earlier that day. 'Here goes nothing.'
It was now 11:53 P.M. and Abby was tired. She leaned her head against the window, dozing off. Leorio looked at her. She looked stressed, and he knew it was because of him.
He drove Abby home, and carried her into their apartment. He was not ready for what he saw when he opened the door.
