Falling. That's how Leorio felt. He had been walking on the edge but his foot slipped and now he was falling.
The apartment looked just like it had when he had been living there. Leorio's eyes swept over the room as he took in every inch.
Kurapika watched as Leorio became detached from the world. He reached over and grabbed his arm, attempting to steady him.
"Leorio!" Kurapika yelled, but it sounded like his voice was miles away. Leorio reached out to the door, using the frame to steady him. He could feel something grasping his arm, but he wasn't sure what it was.
Leorio was falling again, but this time for real. It seemed to happen in slow motion, and he was faintly aware of Abby and Kurapika yelling at him, asking if he's okay.
The last thing he sees before passing out is Kurapika, his head in his hands, eyes peering out between his fingers.
"Leorio! Leorio, wake up! Please." Abby yells, shaking his shoulder. It had been almost ten minutes since he passed out, but he was too heavy for her to pick up on her own, and Kurapika was in such bad shape, she could never ask him to help. So there they sat, in the middle of the hallway, waiting for him to wake up.
Abby has done everything she could think of to wake him up. Nothing had worked so she sat down next to him, occasionally yelling at him to wake up. Kurapika sat next to him, his back against the door frame, hands covering his face.
"I'm thirsty. Would you like anything?" Abby asked Kurapika as she stood up to go to the kitchen.
"No thank you." He whispered. "I'm so sorry. For everything." His voice cracked at the end.
"What do you mean? None of this is your fault and don't you ever think that!" Abby yelled. "Never." She whispered, sinking to the floor. She felt like her therapist she had seen so many years ago.
"No. It is my fault. If I hadn't been drinking that night... none of this would have ever happened." He countered.
"Shut up! I'm glad I met you. Leorio, he was so... off at first. You could tell he missed you. A lot. He would just zone out all the time. After a while it got better, but it still happens. I think...I think he still has feelings for you." She stopped to take a breath. "Do- do you still have feelings for him?"
Kurapika took his face out of his hands for the first time since Leorio passed out. He sat there, staring at Abby, his mouth hanging open. It looked like he was trying to respond, but he couldn't get out whatever he wanted to say.
"Do you? Because if you do, I don't want to stand in your way. I love Leorio, but I can tell you love him too. He needs you more than he needs me. It'll hurt at first, but you are both so amazing. And you are only better when you're together. I've seen the way he looks at you. So, if you still love him, actually love him, and are willing to be better for him, I'll break up with him."
"You can't do that for me." Is all Kurapika says.
"Let's leave what I can and can't do up to me." Abby smirked. "But you didn't answer my question."
"I do. But like I said, you can't just leave him for me. I won't let you." Kurapika confessed.
"You- you do?" Leorio whispered. He turned his head gingerly, facing Kurapika.
Kurapika looked horror-struck. Had Leorio really just heard that? He looked up at Abby, who looked just as surprised.
"What, do I really look that bad?" Leorio laughed weakly, trying to lighten the mood.
Abby rushes to go help Leorio up, hugging him tightly. "I didn't know what happened! Don't you ever do that to me again!" She yelled at him, slapping his chest.
"Hey, easy there." He laughed. He looked up from Abby and met Kurapika's pain filled eyes. "You okay?" He mouthed to him.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Kurapika mouthed back, plastering on a fake smile.
"How long have I been out?" Leorio asked, looking outside to see the sun beginning to set.
"Around twenty minutes. I was so worried." Abby whispered the last part as she stepped away from Leorio, giving Kurapika some time with him. "I'm going to go get you some ibuprofen. Need anything else?" Abby asked, grabbing the car keys from Leorio's coat pocket.
"I think we're good." Leorio responded for Kurapika, waving goodbye to Abby.
"I'll be back soon, I promise." Abby waved back before sliding out the door. She walked down to the elevator, all the while thinking about ending it with Leorio to make him happy.
It was quiet back in Kurapika's apartment. Leorio desperately wanted to talk about what he had heard, but didn't want to set Kurapika off. So instead, they sat on opposite sides of the couch, not talking much.
Kurapika wished he could take back what he said. Wished he could start over with Leorio for real, but also wanted to hold on tight to every good memory he has with him. He knew he couldn't stop Abby from breaking up with Leorio, but he didn't want to see Leorio in that much pain again.
Abby pulled up to the nearest pharmacy. Last time she had been here she had been looking for something to relieve the pain of a cut from her boyfriend at the time. She looked around. It had been almost three years since that day, and it still looked exactly the same.
Abby walked towards the isle that she knew held the ibuprofen bottles. Ibuprofen was the only reason she had ever been in here. She was about to pick up a bottle when a voice from behind startled her.
"Drop it." That voice. It pierced through her like ice. She stood frozen, hand hovering just above the bottle. "Now, turn around and let me see that pretty little face of yours why don't ya?" The voice asked.
"Mykel." Abby greeted coldly as she turned around to face the source of the voice. "What do you want?" She seethed. It had taken countless hours of therapy to forget what he had done to her, and seeing him only brought anger bubbling to the surface.
"What, is it so bad for an ex-boyfriend to check up on his ex-girlfriend once in a while?" He asked, playing innocent.
"When it comes to you, yes it is. I never want to see you ever again." Abby grabbed the bottle and turned in her heels, trying to get away from the face of her nightmares.
"Tryna play hard to get huh?" He asked, grabbing Abby's wrist. "Well lucky for me I'm good at catch."
"Let go of me!" Abby screamed, trying to get the cashier's attention. Abby finally noticed the earbuds cord hanging from under her hair as Mykel's fist flew towards her face. She fell to the ground, immediately blacking out, the bottle of ibuprofen falling to the floor.
