It was silent except for the sound of omelets on the stove. Abby was a great cook. Leorio and Kurapika sat on opposite ends on the living room, not speaking. Finally Kurapika broke the silence.

"I'm so sorry Leorio. I, I had no idea. I was blinded by my will to find the people who killed my family." His voice cracking at the end.

Leorio looked up, surprised. He looked down at his feet. "I know, I know. I, it just hurt." Leorio sighed.

"Leorio, I- never mind." Kurapika responded.

          "What is it?"

"Well," Kurapika started, but was cut off by Abby.

"Kurapika, your omelet is done!" Abby called from the kitchen.

"Thank you." Kurapika thanked her, standing up and walking to the table. "I never did catch your name." He stated.

"Oh! How rude. Well, I'm Abby." She said, wiping her hands off and reaching out to shake his hand.

"Kurapika. But I'm sure you already know that." Kurapika answered, sending a glance at Leorio and shaking her hand. 'He looks so happy' he thought.

It was silent as Abby cooked Leorio's omelet and Kurapika dug into his.

"This is really good. Thank you." Kurapika complimented Abby.

"Thank you! Now eat up!" Abby said, acting like a mother. Leorio laughed from the other room.

"Leorio, yours will be done in a minute if you want to come sit at the table." Abby called. Leorio got up and sat across from Kurapika.

Setting Leorio's omelet in front of him, Abby gave Leorio's head a kiss. Kurapika stared in disbelief. Abby realized this and looked away quickly. Kurapika followed suit. Leorio was oblivious, digging into his omelets.

The rest on breakfast was quiet as everyone ate. Kurapika insisted on doing dishes, so as everyone finished, he was at the sink, water and soap at the ready.

After breakfast, the trio sat in the living room, silently watching TV. They had been watching for about an hour when Leorio got the courage to speak.

"So, um, Kurapika." He started, "What was that last night?" He asked, afraid to hear what was to come.

Kurapika sat for a minute as the events of the night before flooded his brain.

Flashback

Another spider. Damn it! I thought I got rid of all the webs! I chased it around the house, whacking it with my broom. My home was a mess, it has been since HE left me.

After the breakup, I just went crazy. I became severely depressed, and started taking antidepressants. I threw my clothes and shoes around. I smashes my computer. I dropped out of college. Hell I even cut myself. I've gone through so many razors because of it. I'm ashamed, but it helped in some ways. Whenever I realized what I had done to Leorio, I would cut. It burned, but at the same time felt good.

As I finally killed the spider, I went to cut. Spiders always remind me of him. It's been almost a year, and I don't understand why I still care. I should have moved on by now. I'm sure he has.

I stand over the sink, running the cool metal of the blade over my skin. I watch as the warm liquid pours from my wrist. After watching the blood trickle down my arm, I wash it under the cold water coming out of my faucet. It's dark because I refuse to pay the electric bill. I have a hard enough time paying my rent.

Maybe I should just leave. Not just the apartment, but this world. It would hurt less than what I feel now. Plus, I'd be with my family again. But, Leorio. Would he care? Would he show up to the funeral?

It doesn't matter. I'd be dead. I'll go have a drink or two then see how I feel. I'll have my antidepressants on me, so if I want I could just overdose. Plus, mixed with alcohol, I won't feel a thing.

Yeah, that's what I'll do. I put gauze on my fresh cut and grab my coat. I'm only 19, but my fake ID should do the trick. It's worked before. I grab my wallet, and walk out the door. To the bar I go.

End of flashback

Kurapika cant tell them everything, so instead he just says, "I saw a spider. You know how that goes. I hate spiders." He laughs, looking at Leorio. Leorio chuckled and smiled sadly. It made Kurapika happy to see him smile, but sad at the same time.

"So yeah, I freaked out and left. Then I decided to go to the bar. I kind of got carried away..." Kurapika laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Two questions. First, aren't you only 19?" Leorio asked, knowing the answer.

"Yeah. I kind of have a fake ID." Kurapika answered sheepishly.

Leorio nodded. "Ok, question two. Not to intrude or anything, but... do you cut?" Leorio questioned, remembering the razors in the floor, hurt in his voice.

Kurapika looked at his feet. "Yeah." He whispered.

Abby gasped, and Leorio started shaking.

"Why!" He yelled. "Why would you hurt yourself like that? After everything you've been through... everything we've been through, why?!" Leorio stood, shouting at the Kurta, tears in his eyes. Abby stood, holding Leorio's shoulders to stop him from doing anything.

"Because!" Kurapika stood also, yelling just as loud as Leorio. "It helped. I know it sounds stupid but it helped!" He was shaking, his hands in fists. "You wouldn't understand. You could never understand. Thanks for everything, but I'll be going now."
He grabbed his coat and stormed out, slamming the door.

Leorio dropped to his knees, a steady stream of tears rolling down his face.

"Leorio, are you okay?" Abby asked, still shaken from what just happened.

"I'm fine!" Leorio shouted, wiping his tears as he stood up. "Let him go. It's what he wants." His voice was a whisper by the end.

Leorio stomped off to the bedroom, and Abby could hear sobs from the other side of the room.

Abby decided to go after Kurapika, knowing she would regret it if she didn't.

In the other room, leorio sat crying, immediately regretting everything. He knew he should have gone after Kurapika before he did something stupid. It would hurt, but it had to be done.

Walking out of the room, he finds Abby is already gone. He sighs, grabbing his keys to go look for the young Kurta.
