People expect you to adjust—big time.
Like, my mom just asked me to manage an entire crowd of hormonally overactive teenagers with only five large pepperoni pizzas while we were twenty-five people. I protested, obviously. We had nothing except Coke & Chips & Pizza, and it was the first party I'd ever thrown in my entire life apart from birthday parties.
By the way, birthday parties are too cliche, and my experiences with them haven't been really great since my twelfth one, so I decided to ban them from my life. It was my twelfth birthday when I threw this mega celebration at a nearby party hall. The food was excellent, and everything was nice, except for the people and their behavior. My family and my friends didn't really fit along well. Half of my cousins acted lame around my friends (purposefully) and passed subtle mean comments on everything from their hairstyle to choice of songs; some of my aunts and mom openly started being sarcastic about my opposite gender friends interacting with us. The worst thing was my mom complaining about my dress in front of everyone.
'It's a black dress! I told you to wear the blue one. You look much darker now!' She shouted. I ignored her.
The next birthday I tried to include only my family. They sabotaged my birthday with literally messing up the way to a resort we were supposed to go to! We did nothing!! And then on my fourteenth birthday, which was friends only, two of my classmates started fighting really bad and left!
That's when I decided; no more birthdays.
The party I threw was a victory party. In the interschool drama competition, our school had come first, and I had written one of the play's songs! It was such a big moment, and my mom told me to adjust!
'Sorry, Riya beta, I ordered less, I don't know how I misheard you. Anyway, I have to leave for work now. Grandma will be in her room, so make sure she isn't disturbed. Also, video call dad and Prateek, they'll feel happy.'
'Mom, but that won't work! Give me some money, and I'll go buy the rest of the pizzas!'
'No need Riya. Please share and eat whatever you're getting. I was anyways against all this party thing while I wasn't at home. And yeah, be at your best behavior. I want no-nonsense and drama.'
I continued to protest, but she left. My day was about to be spoiled.
