'This is our mother, Karishma.' Mat told me as he touched her feet. Aspen followed him.
'No mother we won't eat here, we're taking our friends to Moonlit's.' Aspen smiled.
'Yes mother, she's from Earth. Ryan brought her in. Yes, she wants to address life in Etis.'
I just stood there awkwardly. Ryan whispered into my ear that they could communicate without really speaking. I heaved a sigh of relief.
The village had a big rectangular wooden table with round seats that seemed like they were cut off from trees. There were several bonfires here and there where people looking like Aspen and Mat cooked. I could spot one or two small tree houses. There was a woman in grey clothes who was placing stone boulders in one corner, and another was helping her. They were probably making a case like thing.
'That shelter is being made for a very special plant to grow.' Aspen and Mat's mother squeezed my hand. She had severe wrinkles on her face and her hair was pale yellow. Her eyes were black, and they seemed void, lifeless when you concentrate. It creeped me out. 'We are our own conservators. If all goes well, we'll have the one and the only flower of it's kind, here in Etis. It will be a tribute to the Fallen Queen. Charismatic, Bold, and Beautiful, just like her.'
'Who's the Fallen Queen now?' I enquired. Ryan might have mentioned it somewhere, but there's so much information to take in, that I really required a notepad.
'She's the mysterious history of Etis everyone cherishes. We aren't supposed to discuss her this way. We need a proper place and time to do this.' Ryan planted a soft kiss on my cheek. Aspen informed us that it was time for us to go for dinner at Moonlit's. We served our goodbyes to the nature spirits. Aspen and Mat's mom, gave me a suffocating hug before we left. 'Take this.' She handed me a piece of stone. It was a very ordinary piece of rock, smooth and rounded and small, like the ones I saw on the streambed the day I came to Etis for the first time. She handed it to me secretly while hugging and said, 'Always keep this with you. It will serve its purpose.'
I had already accepted that Etis was a typical fairyland with some technological and bizarre twists, so I just nodded. I somehow did promise I'd keep it with me, which I strangely decided I would.
