School. Mumbai meant school. Ryan sat on the bench with me but refrained from talking and ignored me. The teacher came in and introduced the new student, who of course was Ayum.
'Welcome Abhiraaj Kapoor from Singapore International, he'll be grading the class for six months now, he's a year older and a part of the student inspection committee. He'll carry on his studies at the later part of the day.' He came and sat behind me. He had been in our school before too, so it was his fixed-job. Bright student. Bright perks. As the recess started and Ryan immediately stormed off, he whispered in my ears, 'I made the mess, I'll fix it up with you. But please do hear me out once.'
'What will you fix?' I asked angrily. Yet, I didn't hate him for all this and still cherished the kiss. Something is seriously wrong with my brain.
'I'll talk to Ryan along with you. But please, hear me out once.'
And how could I deny so much to my Ayum? 'Say.' I muttered under my breath. I actually wanted to hear what he said. I mean how could he be so unobservant if he loved me so much? How did he not know? And why am I invisible to him while he's in his normal life? Why am I an option, yet he's running after me?
'I know, things aren't going at the best pace now. Whatever happened that day was bad, really bad. But, your feelings, Riya, they fuck you up, big time. You don't realize what you're doing, because what matters is your...need. Your want. You're mine. I don't know how to phrase this, but I'm falling for you. I'm a fool I didn't ac--
'Just shut up.' I burst out, crying. Wailing, literally. I already had Etis on my mind. Aspen called us almost five times a day to report about the happenings. Things were getting worse back there, the wicked getting more powerful than ever. And if that wasn't enough, the world (Earth) was seeing traces of a new virus originating from China. And now this. 'You say you love me? Since when hah, since when? Two months, three months, huh? Why? Why? Because I'm easy to be with? Or do you wanna, you wanna prove something? That you can be the coolest on Earth? The way you behaved with me at your party, that's what you do to your crush? The girl you touch every fucking time you meet? And then that wasn't enough, you kiss her!' My sobs weren't stopping. My nerdy school wasn't paying attention either, so it was easier to shout.
'It's nothing like that, I'm so--
'You're sorry for what? It was obvious Ayum! I mean Abhiraaj.' I quickly took my words back. 'I've loved you from every corner in my heart for over three years. Three fucking years, can you believe it? No, because you're blind! And then when I finally give up hope and move on, you keep coming back? The problem you know what lies in me too. Whatever I do, I can't keep you away from my thoughts! Maligning my thoughts! I've tried and failed, and after that, I was finally succeeding, but like every other time, you managed to crawl back. Why! Why me?' I shouted at the top of my voice.
He came and hugged me. Under different circumstances, this would have been the best day of my life. 'I love you, but I won't ask you to do the same. Let's go get the relationship fixed.'
