Pentatox looked like a 90s castle from the inside. The play was ninety minutes long and Aspen was a part of it. It was basically a very short version of Horace, a popular French play. We then headed to the ballroom for dance. Ryan and I were hand in hand, and I was elated. He was previously not ready for a dance and insisted on watching the play and leaving. He denied performing even the song. It was in the middle of the play he changed his mind.
We headed into the humungous room lit by chandeliers and with a buffet of light food in one corner. Couples geared up to dance to the elegant music.
I wore a dress similar to Grace Kelly's in To Catch a Theif, just in oak color. Ryan gracefully asked me for my hand to dance. We held the classic prom position and swiftly moved in tune to the beats. I had a french bun on, with diamond-studded beads on my hair, so light from there reflected on his face, small silvery dots on his calm and composed face. This time only his iris glowed like diamonds, and I looked into them with the utmost attention. They flickered back to normal in between, when he occasionally spun me around with one hand.
Everything felt really familiar although. I had never attended a prom night because India is strictly against the word love amongst the youth, nor did I ever visit any place where I experienced it. It felt actually really familiar to me, maybe I had a dream or something or maybe I watched a particular scene somewhere with too much attention.
I felt unusually deja vu ic plus happy.
As I said goodbyes and turned to leave, the lights dimmed off. I kind of knew what was going to happen, so I turned around in the most iconic way possible.
There Ryan was, on a piano, playing the instrumentals of my song. It couldn't have gotten a better voice.
'Hey, Evie,
Take it easy.
You're the best,
East or West,
for me.'
You are the best Ryan Roy. Indeed you are.
'Hey, Evie,
the weather is breezy,
So close your eyes,
And feel the skies,
with me.'
My song seriously couldn't have sounded any better. Everyone closed their eyes and followed his melody, Ryan sounded exceptional.
'Don't you know?
Light is what moths follow.
Don't you know?
It is now we can go.'
My heart was filled with pride and love. My best friend, my love was there on the stage, singing and playing his piano, singing lyrics I wrote.
'So Evie,
stay with me.
I'll help you heal,
Cuz I know pain is what you feel.
I'll share happiness,
We'll overcome your loneliness.'
I looked around. Everyone seemed to have a positive response to it. Even Mat was smiling.
'So Evie,
Take it easy.
So Evie,
the weather is breezy.
So Evie,
stay with me.
Hey Evie,
Believe me.'
He ended on a keynote. Everyone the room roared with thunderous claps.
I ran towards him, my eyes welling up with tears, and without even looking around, not bothering about the fact that we were still underage to do this, I kissed him.
Just moved his mouth towards me by his chin, and kissed him.
'I love you.' I said.
And then I kissed him again.
