"don't forget my speed, my lane, my pace."
At last, her last class had finally arrived after a stressful day of navigating through the entire school.
Volleyball, the sport that felt like home to her.
Her expectations were high, anticipating that she could make friends through a mutual interest, hoping they wouldn't question if she were a fire shifter like everyone else.
She entered the gym fully changed into her practice attire, feeling the eyes of everyone land on her.
At the moment, nothing felt more intimidating than about eleven insanely tall girls staring you down, knowing they were silently judging you.
"Line up!" the female coach blew her whistle, making all of them step onto the blue line of the gym floor. Minseo lagged behind, finding a spot at the end.
"As you can see, we have a new teammate." she raised an eyebrow, motioning her to walk over.
Shyly, she stood beside the coach, facing all of the pretty faces.
"I'm Choi Minseo, I'm excited to play with you all this season."
"What position do you play?" one of the girls asked.
"Setter, sometimes I'm put in as opposite hitter though." she replied with a smile, making one of the girls raise an eyebrow.
"Interesting." she brushed away the bangs on her forehead, glaring into her profile. Minseo knitted her eyebrows together, confused on where she had seen her before.
"Our setter at the moment is our captain, Yoo Hyerin. Though, it'll be nice to have two. Right side hitter as well... you'll be a great addition." the coach nodded her head in approval.
"I'm sure we all lost our stamina after the winter break. We'll be conditioning today, I want two laps around the school for a warmup."
Internally, they all cursed in their minds, but just answered yes in response. At the sound of the whistle, the girls took off, running out of the gym doors.
Taken by surprise, Minseo followed behind them, barely knowing her way around the school.
They approached the staircase on the opposite side of the building, all panting as they felt their thighs beginning to burn on the incline. The team went all the way up on the third floor, building up their stamina.
"Let's go, ladies!" the same girl with the wispy bangs leading the team yelled, glancing back at Minseo who was falling only the slightest bit behind.
Was that a threat?
Feeling her pride get struck, she picked up the pace, passing up four girls.
After running through the third floor, they ran back down the stairs that lead to the gyms, preparing themselves for another round.
