A gasp for air.
Not calm and refreshing like coming up from the swimming pool.
It was harsh, desperate even. It felt like her head was continuously dunked into a freezing ocean, salt burning up into her nose and eyes.
Shaking in a cold sweat, she looked over at her phone, wincing as it turned on when she lifted it to her face. The light emitted was blinding even if it were at the lowest brightness, bringing her to shut her eyes in pain.
8:12 p.m.
"I slept the whole day." she mumbled groggily. Slinging both legs over the edge of the bed, she sniffled as she brought herself onto her feet. The room was almost pitch black, but she couldn't bring herself to turn on even a dim lamp.
Adjusting to the lightheaded vision, she stood still- yet the worries inside of her were raging.
Like a tsunami, waves entered each and every crevice of whatever safe space she had inside of her. It was overwhelming, sending her into a whirlwind of anxieties like a lifeboat lost at sea.
The dryness in her mouth was parched, leaving a bitter after-nap taste. Though, it wasn't just her tongue that felt drained, it was her entire body.
Her feelings were all the opposite, a hurricane inside of her head but she physically felt like a desert. There was only one place she yearned to be right now and she made no hesitation to sneak out the door, holding her hoodie close to her body.
She looked like a madman, fists clenched with her hair pulled in every which direction from her troubling nightmare. Her breaths were labored, audible to anyone in close proximity. She felt like she was going insane every moment she wasn't in tact with something— yet she didn't know what it was.
"Minseo?" a deep voice called out right when she exited her porch. Jumping slightly at the unexpected sound, she looked at the house across her street to see a black haired boy, tall and slim.
Hesitantly, she walked over, seeing his body get bigger with every step. "What are you doing on this street?" she asked in a hoarse voice.
His face didn't show any emotion, as it always did, but he leaned against the doorframe of a place that definitely wasn't his house. "Interesting of you not to know Seorin is your neighbor." he dryly chuckled, hearing the door unlock.
"Ji-Ji!" a small voice squealed, jumping on his leg as he walked in.
"Aerin, get off- oh? Hey, Minseo." Seorin's tone was puzzled, but not rude in the slightest. The girl couldn't choke out any words, barely mustering up a smile.
"Why are you-"
"I sensed something imbalanced and I think it was her." Jisung cut her off, staring down at the girl who was almost shaking in her shoes. Seorin examined her troubled expression, eyes landing on one feature that she had always been curious about.
