The air was just chilly enough to have them outside in the presence of the sunset, golden hues radiating off of their faces. The backyards overlooked Lake Hwansang that went on for miles, vast and large with the clearest blue waters.
On the left side of the pavilion were the adults smiling with the wrinkles rising to their cheeks. As expected, the dads were grilling while the moms were casually drinking the champagne they had brought, getting wine tipsy as they watched their kids. Aerin and Jaemin's brother, Jaehyung, were attempting to build castles in the coarse sand, but were ultimately failing.
On the other hand, the group of friends were bumping a volleyball over the net, Hyerin cringing at their lack of control.
"Can you call the ball, airhead?" the brunette groaned, shifting a pebble at Chenle's head. A small shriek left his lips, rubbing the place of impact in discomfort. "Is that not a yellow card?!" he cried out.
"We're on the same team." she shrugged, an amused smile grazing her lips.
Jaemin shook his head at the two, spinning the ball in his hands as he stepped onto the makeshift serving lines drawn onto the sand court. He shifted all the sand off of the ball, clearing it smooth for an anticipated serve.
As he hit it with his might after throwing it up, everyone's faces dropped when it only reached the middle of the net. Hyerin composed her expression quickly, running up to him with her hand up. "Good job! That was better than last time." she gleamed, merrily giving him a high five.
"Last time I missed a serve, the vein in her neck looked like it was about to pop out." Jeno rolled his eyes in distress, earning a chorus of giggles from the other team.
Minseo took the ball into her hands as it rolled to her side of the court, tossing it over to Mark. "Let's see if your shots are as big as that head of yours." she teased, making him raise an eyebrow in amusement.
"No promises, kid." he chuckled, tossing it up into the air before hitting it just over the net. Luckily, Hyerin was positioned in the front, successfully diving for the ball. Chenle panicked in fear of the competitive queen of the court, kicking it up with his foot with a gust of wind.
"What'd I say about air shifting?" Minseo groaned, stumbling over herself as she passed it to Miyeon. To her surprise, the blonde had experience with the game in her high school days, taking on the same exact positions as her during senior year.
As expected, the retired setter placed the ball just high enough for her, spiking it over the net before Jisung could even move towards it- not that he was going to. It was like a flash of light, even more impressive that it was done for the millionth time in a row on a beach volleyball court.
"This isn't fair, they have two volleyball players!" she whined, burying her toes into the sand. "I just wanna eat." her bottom lip pursed out, wailing her arms at her boyfriend who hadn't put in any effort the entire game.
