"and it's easier to walk away
then to look for what would make you stay.""Purple?"
"Yes, purple." Seorin bit her bottom lip, sitting at the cafe in the seat across Jeno. He rubbed his eyes under his glasses, listening to the girl's rant.
"You can't be serious, would that mean she's a prodigy?" his mouth remained agape.
"Prodigy? Another one?"
The sound of someone sitting down beside them dragged them out of their thoughts. "Hey, Hyuck. We're studying, why are you here?" Jeno gave him a smile.
"I'm bored. Chenle's playing basketball, Jisung and Jaemin are training, Mark and Renjun are working— it's like everyone has something to do except me!" he whined, leaning into the plush cushion of the brown leather couch.
Seorin looked at him up and down, shaking her head. "We all have things to do, dummy. Maybe you should find a hobby too, or at least get started on your college applications." she motioned to her screen with multiple tabs opened.
His face scrunched up in distaste, disgusted with the idea of it. "No thanks, another four years of school? I'd rather not." he shuddered at the thought.
"Late submissions are due in a month, won't your mom kill you if you don't get them in?" Jeno brought up.
Subconsciously rolling his eyes, he fiddled with the zipper on his jacket. "I don't care what my mom says." his words were mumbled, avoiding eye contact with the two.
"For someone who's always with the college boys, you sure hate the idea of actually going to college." Jeno added.
"College is a scam. Just a shit ton of money to slave to labor the rest of your life, I'm doing my family a favor."
Seorin sighed in defeat, taking a sip of her espresso. "What are your plans anyways? I mean, I'm sure you're not taking over the school board like your parents." she pursed her lips, indulging in the bitter taste Jaemin introduced her to.
At the mention, his mind went blank.
A whirlwind of nerves boiled up, ones that he had always suppressed. The same echoing question rang in his head, the same one he could never find the answer to.
Unexplainable pressure dawned onto his chest, unable to even find the words to respond.
What do I want to do?
It wasn't like he was going to take over the school board, nor focus on education at all. God, even the idea of doing another couple years of school, paid school at that, sounded like pure torture.
All at once, the same words replayed in his mind, like a scratched up record on repeat. Standardized tests, GPA, college applications— they were like pins poking at every nerve in his body.
