Red.

Blue.

Flashes and waves, each crashing against one another. The sound of rumbling and crackling, one in each ear. Burning and saltiness, heat and chills. An eternal oxymoron was what she found herself in, tugged at each arm by the contrasting symbols.

The sun, the moon.

"My baby, Minseo."

Cries, the ones from an infant.

Silence, abrupt and muffled.

Suddenly, Minseo sat up in a cold sweat, hyperventilating for a breath of air. Darkness was surrounding, bouncing off of the cardboard boxes laid across the large room.

Leaning over to see the time on the clock, it flashed numbers in a bright red.

1:44 a.m.

"It was just a dream." she whispered to herself in a hushed tone, attempting to provide reassurance.

More like a creepy nightmare, her internal thoughts added.

Tossing and turning in her bed, she found herself restless. Her arms were jittery, as if she had taken twelve shots of espresso that morning. Itching, the feeling that was nipping at her nerves.

An odd desire was swishing through her veins, a hunger— a thirst.

Giving in, she sat up in the wrinkled covers, grabbing her phone from the charger. Shifting uncomfortably in her pajama pants, she closed the door soundly behind her, tip toeing down the stairs like a mouse.

She shook her head as she could hear Minjun's game from downstairs, coming to the conclusion that if she were to step out, no one would notice at all. Biting her bottom lip in contemplation, she slipped on the closest pair of shoes and out the front door, making sure to lock it right behind her.

Moist, the air was heavily dewy.

Minseo's face scrunched up in distaste, wondering how it could possibly be humid in the cold weather. Wiping a bead of sweat that formed at her forehead, she walked along the quiet streets, clutching the pepper spray on her key ring tightly.

There was no set destination in her mind, nor did she know the streets well at all. But, she felt a safety walking through the suburbs of the Republic, something she never did in Jaegu.

Looking down at her phone, she clicked on a contact.

A frustrated sigh escaped out of her, stopping in her tracks on the slightly wet concrete. "He doesn't care, stupid." her words were hushed yet came out as a groan, continuing walking into the strip of convenience stores and fast food places.
