Chapter 37

The next couple days were literally torture. After the fight we lost a lot of Serpents and the trailer park so Pea, Toni and I have been living at the Wyrm. Luckily Fangs is actually alive, but Jughead still hasn't woken up yet, I visit him everyday but no change. Apparently it was Bettys dad who was the black hood but someone else was working with him, we just don't know who. I walk out of the bathroom at the Wyrm shivering
"Hey come here your freezing" Pea says taking off his jacket and wrapping me up
"Thanks. Of course the bloody heater breaks when we need it most"
"Any news on Jughead yet?" Toni asks
"No nothing"
"He's strong. He'll be ok" dad walks in and walks straight to me
"He's awake"
"Wait what?"
"Betty rang the others if you want to go and see him"
"I'm seeing Fangs tomorrow so I'll go tomorrow. Give him time to rest"
"Hey so I haven't managed to fix the heater but I've found an old one in the basement" Fred Andrews says
"Wait you were allowed down there" I ask looking at my dad
"Yeah I let him go down there. There isn't anything incriminating down there anymore"
"I'm going to pretend I didn't here that. It should start warming up in a little bit"
"Thank you Fred"
"No problem. Take it easy" I wave Fred out and get on Pea and I's air bed and we quickly fall asleep.

After seeing Jug and Fangs the next week goes quickly and before we knew it Jughead was back at school. We're sat in the classroom we used to hold our meetings at
"So this is how is ends huh? Not with a whimper but a memo from Weatherbee" Jug shakes his head
"Riverdale high is now suddenly overcrowded" Toni sighs
"Starting next week all former Southside High students will be busted to Seaside High, which is 2 hours away" I say
"Meaning he blames us for trashing the school during riot night"
"I mean baby you kinda did" I shrug as Pea folds his arms then sighs "whats our play? Do we have one?"
"I dunno anymore guys. Can't keep fighting for a gang that doesn't exist"
"I'm sorry what?" I say shocked
"Well what about us? Or any of the other Serpents at the Wyrm?" Toni says annoyed
"What Serpents at the Wyrm?"
"How do you not know?" I ask
"El you didn't say anything to him" Pea says
"I presumed dad told him. I didn't talk about it to Jughead I thought he needed to recover first"
"Ella is that where you've been staying? Dad said you moved in with Pea"
"Well yeah kinda. I was meant to but then riot night happened"
"Take me to the Wyrm" Jug says. We grab our things and leave school.

We arrive at the Wyrm and Jughead is mad
"I don't understand"
"You saw what the Ghoulies did to most of sunnyside" Toni starts
"A lot of Serpents couldn't afford to leave Riverdale so we came here" Pea finishes
"Ella has been working her butt off trying to nurse sick and injured back to health" Toni says
"Does dad know about this?"
"Yes" I sigh
"Why did he keep this from me?"
"Because he knew you would want to fight for us, like me. Since you woke up all he's done is drink and get drunk. Just like before"
"I'll fix this"
"Good look I've been trying. Come on guys there's some soup round the back. Start giving it out" Jughead walks out to talk to dad
"Why didn't you tell him about your dads plans for leaving?"
"Cuz I'm not going anywhere. If they leave I'm next in line to lead. I will bring back the Serpents I promise". We all get ready for the night, after an hour or so Toni gets a phone call
"Guys" Toni hangs up her phone "that was Cheryl she said Sheriff Minetta is raiding the Wyrm. Start packing"
"Are you being serious?"
"I'm afraid so. Cheryls on her way, she's gone to get Jughead"

"Take only what you absolutely need and can carry with you"
"We gotta pack light. Move quickly and quietly" I say stood next to my brother addressing all the serpents
"Sheriff Minettas forces are all over looking for our blood. If we want our skulls to remain uncracked we have to go undetected"
"Go where Jughead theres nowhere safe" Sweet Pea says
"Weve been offered asylum on the Northside by Archie and his dad" I look at Pea then the rest of the Serpents "I'll find us somewhere else to live but for now it will have to do" I say looking back up to everyone "one day the Southside will be ours again but for now we lay low, waiting to strike. Let's go"
"Damn El your a good leader. Hey when FP does retire I think your definitely going to get promoted to leader" Pea smiles at me putting his arm around me while picking up the bag we already packed, thankfully we hadn't bought anything for the baby yet so we only need a little bit. We begin to make our way through the streets quickly. Pea carrying the bag and holding my hand pulling me along hiding whenever there was a police car. We reach the bridge that divides the Southside from the Northside I turn around with tears in my eye
"Come on don't look back" Pea squeezes my hand. I promise that one day I will bring Southside back and the Ghoulies will be gone.
