Alright, now for their next EP, Something Different. I won't bother wasting any time, let's just get straight into it, after I explain the rules of course.
The Categories
Lyrics: The pacing, vocals, and the high note if there is one.Substance: The song's ability to hold your attention, properly express its message or tell its story, the message/story itself, and the song's tendency to repeat itself.
Beat: Is it bloated? Do all the elements blend together?
Originality: Whether or not you can tell it apart from other songs of a similar theme, as well as how likely it is that you'll remember it.
Enjoyment: Is the song fun to listen to? Just because it's awful doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.
Video: Does it fit the song? Is it creative? Is it fun to watch?
The Grading System
Every star in one of the categories is worth one-fifth (.2) of a star for the final or overall score. This means a perfect score in any category will result in one complete star in the final score. Videos do not affect the final score.1. Something Different- 3.2/5
Lyrics: 4/5
Notes
The pacing is great, not too slow or too fast. The echoing effect to the their voices it pretty nice too. If you listen closely, you can hear that it goes on for much longer than it needs to, but it's so quiet after the first or second repeat that you can't really tell it's even thereSubstance: 2/5
Notes
The chorus-type part that Jack, Jonah, and Corbyn (in that order) sing lasts a very long time and happens twice, on top of that the verses aren't that long, so the song repeats itself quiet a lot. The message is sweet, but bland. The song can hold your attention though and it clearly gets it's theme acrossBeat: 5/5
Notes
It's really punchy which makes it a nice contrast to the softer sounding vocals, not to mention the weird background noise behind the bass fits the whole idea of being unique because I certainly can't explain what that noise is. Also, the way the bass stops right before Daniel starts singing at the beginning is fantastic, such a nice touchOriginality: 1/5
Notes
This song has absolutely no originality, claiming your specific relationship is "special" isn't at all unheard-of, a certain One Direction song comes to mind (Better Than Words). The point it got came purely from the video, which is an original way to show this conceptEnjoyment: 4/5
Notes
The song's fun, it's as simple as that. A fun beat, easy to remember lyrics, what more could you ask for?Video: 5/5
Notes
I really like this video, I'm gonna start by saying that. The song is obviously about being different and to have the video of a song with this idea be about an art gallery could've gone south real fast, but it didn't. Having the lyrics be the walk-through of a completely blank picture frame was smart. The painting itself is the focus of an art museum with the words adding some extra info, but what this video did was make the words the main attraction an the picture an afterthought. It's something completely different from what people would expect, especially considering that every other art piece in the building follows this format. As for the journey through space and time that takes place, I like to think the lyrics somehow lead you throughout the entire gallery and to the pictures showed in the video and your journey ends where it began, at the front desk with the final painting being all the boys together. I never said this videos had to be realistic, or even possible in this case, just creative. And this one certainly is
