I wouldn't necessarily say I have high hopes for this EP in particular, but I am hoping it's better than Why Don't We Just, which really shouldn't be difficult.
I only listen to two of these songs on a semi-regular basis- Invitation and Words I Didn't Say- so this hope is completely unfounded, but people need dreams dammit!
The Categories
Lyrics: The pacing, vocals, and the high note if there is one.Substance: The song's ability to hold your attention, properly express its message or tell its story, the message/story itself, and the song's tendency to repeat itself.
Beat: Is it bloated? Do all the elements blend together?
Originality: Whether or not you can tell it apart from other songs of a similar theme, as well as how likely it is that you'll remember it.
Enjoyment: Is the song fun to listen to? Just because it's awful doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.
Video: Does it fit the song? Is it creative? Is it fun to watch?
The Grading System
Every star in one of the categories is worth one-fifth (.2) of a star for the final or overall score. This means a perfect score in any category will result in one complete star in the final score. Videos do not affect the final score.1. Invitation- 1.8/5
Lyrics: 2/5
Notes
The pacing is fine. The vocals are fine. There is no high note. It's all fineSubstance: 1/5
Notes
It repeats itself bad and the message is boring. It expresses it in a way that isn't good or bad. It does hold you attention though, kindaBeat: 1/5
Notes
The beats boring and repetitive. The lyricless, dubstep part lasts too long and is one of the worst of any of their songsOriginality: 2/5
Notes
This song kept reminding me of their other song Tell Me and I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized that Tell Me is this song's opposite. Rather than giving the other person the invitation like here. Tell Me is asking to be given the invitation. Anyway, it isn't a very original theme, giving someone permission to be with you or vice verse, but I can't really think of a more direct comparison that Tell Me, so I'll give it a 2Enjoyment: 3/5
Notes
The beat's very bass heavy and easy to bod along to, but it isn't engaging enough to warrant a higher score. It could be mindless music you half-heartedly bounce your head to and not much elseVideo: 5/5
Notes
This is probably the funniest video they've ever made. The song is all about not needing an invitation to join, which the other boys clearly took as them being allowed to tag along in the date was well. Daniel becoming more and more paranoid about them popping up, but clearly enjoying their company after he stops taking everything so seriously. Then it all comes together to him actually inviting them to watch the movie as well, albeit with a little prodding. I don't understand the century change, maybe as a nod to how times have changed and girls don't need to wait until they're reached out to to go on a date? That could be it, but I don't really know2. M.I.A- 2.4/5
Lyrics: 2/5

Sometimes it's hard to tell what they're saying, but for the most part the vocals are just uninspired and boring. The last verse with Jonah and Daniel has weird pacingSubstance: 2/5
Notes
The song repeats itself bad. The verses are super short and only one line changes between the first and the second. The chorus is fun, but not fun enough to last for so long. The ending verse is the only example of actual variety. As for the theme, wanting to make up for not being around is pretty common practice. Not particularly enjoyable for me, but not awful I suppose
