Summary: Corbyn has accepted that this is how it all will end, with him alone in the middle of the ocean. This is how he's gonna die. Or is it?
Corbyn's POV
It was so cold.Everything was so cold.
How long had it been?
An hour?
A day?
Two minutes?
Was I gonna die like this?
Out in the middle of the sea with no one even knowing to look for me?
What would get me first?
They always said sailors died of hypothermia long before their bodies fully gave in to drowning.
How did my body hurt so bad when I was numb from the freezing ocean waves?
The sky was pretty. The storm seeming long gone now.
I shut my eyes, going completely limp.
There wasn't much use fighting, was there?
No one was here to save me.
No one knew to look for me.
I didn't have anyone to look for me.
At least that meant no one would miss me either. Silver linings and all that, right?
I saw a sleek, dark shape pass over me, just able to make out a fin.
So, a shark would get me first then?
~ Some Time Later ~
I blinked my eyes open, groaning at the throbbing ache coursing through every atom of my being.
" Fuck," I whimpered, shutting my eyes again," the... fuck 'appened?"
" You're awake!" An ecstatic voice cried.
I forced my lids apart, peeking up through squinted eyes.
There was a body over mine. I couldn't make out the features.
" Who...", I mumbled.
" I'm Zach," they smiled," I found you floating in the water and I saved you."
They then tilted their head," isn't dangerous to go swimming when its this cold? Why were you doing it all alone?"
I laughed. The sound sending me into a violent coughing fit. I clutched at my chest, arm screaming against the motion.
" Easy, easy," Zach whispered," here, let me see."
They pushed my hand aside, pressing their palm to my chest.
" There's still some water in there. I was sure I had gotten it all out," Zach muttered lowly.
My chest was heaving, staring at Zach through tear-filled eyes.
" Just hold still, okay?" Flashing me a kind smile," I'll take care of it."
Zach closed their eyes, sighing softly.
My lungs began to tingle, feeling as if I had inhaled a feather.
" Just hold still," the stranger whispered once more.
The invisible weight inside of them began to lift. The feeling left me lightheaded.
I looked back at them, face blurry.
" It's okay," Zach whispered," it'll all be okay."
~ The Next Day ~
My eyes opened again. It didn't hurt nearly as much as it did before.
