20//calm before the storm

It's been almost two weeks since the students returned from their field trip and everyone has gone back to their normal lives. No one is thinking about the events that occurred at the field trip anymore, except for Marinette.

Marinette has had the time to sleep and relax in the last weeks, but she's restless. There hasn't been an akuma attack since the field trip. That has happened before, but she has an uncomfortable feeling this time. What if it's the calm before the storm? Marinette is well aware that HawkMoth might know her identity, what if he's planning something big and dangerous? And with Chat still being injured, she's afraid. She can't manage to win a big fight like this on her own.

Fortunately, two weeks without fighting did a lot of good to Adrien's back and it doesn't hurt anymore, he's able to fight alongside his lady again! But since there hasn't been an akuma attack, there's no way for him to tell his lady that he's healed, especially since Ladybug said they won't patrol until he's healed. He tried calling Ladybug multiple times, but since she doesn't transform, she won't see the messages yet.

It's Thursday and since Marinette has a little homework left, she wakes up early. She goes to her desk and makes her history homework. Once she's finished, she goes downstairs, eats breakfast, waves goodbye to her parents and walks to school. It's a beautiful day, the sun is shining and there's no cloud to be seen. It looks like it will be a day like the last two weeks where nothing is gonna happen. She will soon find out that she's wrong.

That same morning, Adrien gets woken up by Natalie knocking on his door. "Your breakfast is ready in fifteen minutes."

"I'll be down in a second." Adrien responses. He gives Plagg his daily morning cheese, puts on his regular clothes and walks downstairs. As usual, he eats all alone at the big table. He hasn't seen his dad since he came back from the field trip. His father didn't even care to ask if he was okay after the two akuma attacks.

Adrien gets dropped off at school by his bodyguard and the first thing that catches his eye is Marinette walking towards the school. He catches up with her as he enjoys her company.

"Hey Marinette."

"Hi Adrien." She stutters, Adrien thinks it's cute, although he has no idea why she stutters that much when she's around him, she never stutters when she's with Chat.

"How are you doing?" He asks her to strike up a conversation.

"I'm good. What about you?"

"Me too. Do you have any plans today? I've got no photo shoot or fencing lessons and I really want to go to the movies today." Adrien asks, he hasn't spoken to Marinette that much in the past few weeks and he thinks going to the movies with her would be nice.

Marinette's heart starts pounding, Adrien wants to go to the movies with her! Her! She has to stay calm and tell him she'd like that. Why is this so hard?! Just tell him. Breathe, in and out, and tell him.
"Yes, I'd like that."

"Nice! I'll meet you here after school."

"Okay, see you then."

When Adrien leaves to meet up with Nino, Alya walks towards Marinette. She notices Marinette stands frozen and she's pretty sure it has something to do with the famous teen model.

"What was that about?" She asks her best friend.

"He invited me to the movies." Marinette whispers quietly, she still can't believe it.

"What did you say? I couldn't hear you." Alya asks.

"He asked me to the movies." Marinette responses a little louder.

"About time, I'm so happy for you!" Alya smiles, walking to their first class with Marinette.

After school, Adrien meets Marinette outside. "Are you ready?" He asks her, Marinette nods. Adrien's bodyguard picks them up and drops them off at the movies.

"What movie do you wanna watch?" Adrien asks her.

"Uh- I don't really care, as long as it's not a horror movie, I hate horror movies."

"I remember you saying that last time we went to the movies together, such bad luck my bodyguard got akumatised." Adrien says, Marinette turns red once again, she remembers that day as if it was yesterday. She went to the movies with Adrien in her pyjamas while a bunch of crazy fans were following them.

They choose an action/romance movie and Adrien buys the tickets, they get some popcorn and drinks and settle down in front of the big screen. After a few ads, the movie starts.

Once the film is on for about half an hour, Marinette and Adrien are very comfortable together. Marinette's head rests on Adrien's shoulder when a kiss is given in the film. They blush and look at each other, Adrien's emerald green eyes look right into Marinette's bluebell eyes. If the moment lasted longer, they might have kissed, but it didn't. A loud bang is heard from outside and the building moves as if an earthquake is happening. Both Adrien and Marinette know it must be an akuma and they have no time to waste, they need to transform.

It has been calm for two weeks, but now the storm has arrived.
