Ladybug doesn't see anyone when she comes down, but there's no doubt that this is HawkMoth's hideout. She can see small, white butterflies resting on the floor, they look exactly like the purified akumas.
Ladybug starts walking through the hideout, swinging her yo-yo as a shield in case HawkMoth sneaks up on her. She needs to find Adrien first, but she assumes HawkMoth is near him. She finds some kind of passage that leads her away from the small butterflies. She decides to walk through that doorway and after walking for a few minutes, she arrives at an open place with pathways surrounded by fences and a big window similar to the one she saw in the last room.
It takes a few seconds for Ladybug to realise she has found what- who she was looking for, in other words: she found Adrien. She ignores the fact that HawkMoth could show up any moment and runs towards her partner.
"Adrien?" She asks, even though she's sure Adrien is her partner, she feels uncomfortable calling him Chat Noir when he's in his civilian form.
"Ladybug?" She hears Adrien say. He sounds weak and he looks worn out, she's starting to worry, did she take too long to show up, why didn't she come sooner?
"Are you okay, I need to find a way to break you out." Ladybug says, searching for some weak point in the prison.
"It's no use, the only way to open the prison is with a key only HawkMoth has." Plagg says, Ladybug didn't even notice he was there.
"Why can't you open it? Tikki opened locks multiple times for me." Ladybug says.
"HawkMoth is still in control of the ring, I can't do anything without his permission."
"Then hold on a little longer, I just have to get the ring from HawkMoth."
"Are you crazy? You can't take on HawkMoth all by yourself, he'll take your miraculous!" Plagg says.
"I won't let that happen, I promise." Ladybug says reassuring.
"We'll see about that." She hears a unfamiliar voice, yet she knows who it belongs to.
"HawkMoth."
"Ladybug, how nice of you to drop by. I must say that I did not expect to see you this soon. Tell me, how did you find this place?"
"Like I'd tell you."
"No time to chat? Fine by me, let's get to business." Hawk Moth says with a grin on his face that creeps Ladybug out.
HawkMoth and Ladybug start fighting while Plagg and Adrien watch them. Adrien feels useless, he should be fighting alongside his lady, not watch her take on HawkMoth all by herself. Defeating was the one thing he was sure he would be doing with her, it's the thing they made jokes about even though they thought it was scary. But now he's watching them defencelessly, he's letting her down.
Ladybug is busy dodging HawkMoth's attacks, she knows that if she makes one mistake, she's done for. But she also knows the same counts for HawkMoth. It's too soon for her to use her lucky charm, she knows she can't take both miraculouses in five minutes and she needs to end this today. Ladybug looks around, she might be able to use her surroundings as a self-made lucky charm. But unfortunately, there's nothing she can use. Yet, when she comes to think of it, she can pretend she knows a way to defeat him to trigger him into making a mistake.
Ladybug runs away to where she entered the room and, as suspected, HawkMoth follows her. She needs to arrive into the first room before Hawk Moth is close for this to work. She runs as fast as she can, but it's hard as HawkMoth is way faster. She somehow manages to get there first and, instead of getting back to the other heroes —as her first plan was — she stays right next to the passage to take the ring when HawkMoth goes through. She needs to time this correctly or HawkMoth can take her miraculous and win.
It doesn't take long for HawkMoth to run through the passage, Ladybug takes this opportunity to start her plan. As soon as HawkMoth arrives, she spots the ring on his right hand. It's in camouflage mode, but she doesn't doubt the fact that this is the miraculous. She sneaks up on him from behind and takes the ring of of his hand. When HawkMoth notices what she's doing, it's too late for him to do anything about it. Ladybug already took the ring and is now on her way back to Adrien and Plagg.
"Ladybug, you won't win this time, not again, I will be victorious!" She can hear HawkMoth shout, his voice gives her chills, he sounds hurt and angry.
When she enters the room, she shouts to Plagg that he is allowed to open the cage. Now that he isn't under HawkMoth's control anymore, it's the first thing he does.
"Adrien, take the ring and transform." Ladybug says, giving him the ring.
"Of course, m'lady." Adrien says, which makes Ladybug blush. Adrien puts the ring on his finger and shouts "Claws out." But — to everyone's surprise — Plagg doesn't get sucked up in the ring.
"Why doesn't it work?" Ladybug asks concerned.
"I don't know." Adrien says.
"I do." Plagg admits. "You're too worn out. You haven't slept and eaten enough so you can't transform for your own safety."
"I'm so sorry, Bugaboo, I should've-" he starts apologising, but she cuts him off. "Don't be silly. Without your help, we wouldn't be here now. You helped me find HawkMoth and we already got the peacock and your miraculous back. You've been such a help so don't you dare to apologise." Ladybug says, Adrien smiles.
He then takes off the ring and gives it to Plagg. "Make sure you keep it save until I'm ready to fight again, buddy." He says, gently petting him.
"I will." Plagg says confidently, Adrien might be the best owner he's ever had. He gives Adrien a hug before leaving. "Get better soon and... don't die today." He says.
"I'll try." Adrien laughs. Plagg then leaves Adrien and Ladybug — who is fighting HawkMoth again — alone. When they're almost out of sight, Plagg notices that Ladybug is pinned against the wall, she's beaten up, her nose is bleeding and she's trembling on her legs.
She's defeated, this is bad!
