The days in the mountain passed slowly. Though according to Gildarts, Satomi seemed to be improving a bit easier. Laxus wasn't convinced, having much rather preferred she wasn't in a condition needing her to heal at all.
Satomi was exhibiting a keen interest in the spear Laxus had brought.
Leaving it laying around unattended in his home in Magnolia wouldn't have been good enough, so he'd wrapped it in a big piece of cloth and brought it with him.
Despite Satomi's curiosity at the weapon, Laxus didn't feel comfortable with letting her wield it. He wasn't sure if she'd be able to keep her composure. Either way her curiosity would grow into a problem if her memories didn't return.
He still hadn't had the courage to bring up the whole 'mate' issue either. At first he'd been hoping her memory would return shortly, and that it wouldn't be nessacarry. Though now he was starting to worry that might not be the case.
It had him nervous, for absolutely no reason. Almost. The first time around it had been simple. They both knew what the intense attraction between them meant. It hadn't been an issue that needed much bringing up. Satomi's reaction this time over was completely unpredictable. As if she hadn't been difficult enough to read in the first place. Not to mention the frustration nagging at him for being basically put back at point blank.
"Hey youngsports! I'm heading back first!" Gildarts voice snapped Laxus from his train of thought and his head snapped up from gathering nuts. Which was probably the most tedious task he'd ever endured.
Confusion pooled in his mind as their guild mate wanted to head back early.
"But y-"
"Look after Satomi will you?" Gildarts voice called again, their eyes clashing just barely between the dense treework. Laxus' eyes widened a bit as he watched the other sclass mage come over. Realization struck Laxus as he watched how Gildarts scouted the area for their grey haired friend.
"You're leaving us" Gildarts hushed him despite Laxus's lowered voice.
"The two of you will be fine on your own. I've done what I can, she seems more comfortable with your presence" Laxus shook his head at Gildarts's justification, sending him a dissapproving stare.
"Absolutely not. She won't even look at me" A smirk toyed at Gildarts's lips and he chuckled a bit.
"Only when you're looking at her. She's been watching you relentlessly ever since you showed up" Laxus stared at Gildarts in disbelief and surprise. The middleaged man patted his shoulder as he stepped past him.
"Take good care of her. Hurt her and I'll break you" Laxus blinked a bit, faced with the responsibility of keeping watch over his mate untill she fully recovered. A task he'd happily accept. Though it still took a moment for the thought to settle in his mind. Then he sighed a bit and nodded.
"Take care, old geezer" Gildarts waved over his shoulder as he walked off. Laxus already knew it'd be close to impossible to stop his guild mate from leaving, especially with Satomi close by. On another note, he'd much rather have her all to himself anyway. It really wasn't a tough call. Laxus still stared after him for a moment, suddenly feeling like going back to foraging for nuts and berries to be absurd.
"He... Left..." His heart jolted a bit in his chest as he heard Satomi behind him and he whirled. She stood only a short step behind him, her arms cradling a considerable pile of nuts and berries. Clearly her talent for finding food hadn't been affected by her amnesia.
Her eyes rested on the spot where their friend had dissappeared to only moments before. Judging from the pale look on her face, she'd heard their entire discussion. Confliction and worry was clear on her features.
