Satomi awoke slowly, her entire body ached, her vision was blurry and spinning, she was unable to move much. The earth beneath her felt cold and damp. It was dark, nighttime.
After a few minutes in trying to stabilise her vision, she gave up. It was hard to breathe, there was something heavy weighing her down. With a slow shaking movement that took a surprising amount of effort, she managed to turn her head enough to see what was on top of her. It was Laxus, he'd gotten them out alive, now he was unconscious, collapsed on the ground. Satomi could faintly remember what happened. He'd somehow found a way to resist command. How? He'd even held her spear... He'd telepathically wielded it... It should have been impossible for him, especially in that condition. Satomi's head spun even faster and she huffed.
They couldn't stay where they were, it was to high a risk of getting caught. Satomi closed her eyes again, her entire body was aching like someone had poisoned her with acid. She tried to move again, her body wouldn't listen. Laxus' breathing was shallow, she could tell by the smell of blood that he was badly injured, just like her. There was something else in the air, a familiar scent. She opened her eyes again, just barely able to figure out her surroundings. She knew these trees, an unlikely stroke of luck that Laxus had gone in this direction. She tried once more to get her body to move, groaning from the effort. It was no use, her legs wouldn't respond. Her spine had been snapped, the pain was unmistakable. A wound that certainly would take a long time to heal. She realized again just how exposed they were in this place. Her vision grew more blurry again, she was sinking back into unconsciousness. With the last piece of strength she had she managed to absorb a small amount of ethernano from the earth around them, giving her the energy to let out one long, desperate howl. Magic allowing the outcry to reach further than it normally would. All she could do was pray that she'd been heard.

When Satomi came back to, the scent around her immediately told her that she was in a different place. Panic seized her when she couldn't sense Laxus right off the bat. She tried to look around, but it was to dark to see anything. Which meant it had to still be night time. The area smelled strongly of wet stone, rotting flesh and dog- no, wolves. After a moment she managed to root out a shallow, strained, breathing amongst the quiet panting. And then a weak heartbeat. They'd brought him as well, a relieved pant escaped her. However, something about the way he was breathing was unsettling. Even though he was unconscious it shouldn't be like that, it sounded almost like something prevented him from getting enough oxygen. His heartbeat was also far too weak. Worry set into mind as she lay motionless in the darkness. As far as she could tell he was about two meters away. A distance she only a couple of days ago would have thought was too close. But now, it was the most excruciating distance. She tried to speak, see if she could get a response from him, but she couldn't get any sound out. At least she knew they were safe here. Her eyes slid shut again, she was still too weak to keep herself awake.
Hours had passed by the time Satomi once more woke up, daylight was slipping through the cave's exit. Which would have been a welcome sight, but now she could see what kind of condition Laxus was in. His heartbeat was barely audible even for her. Terror set in as she realized he would die if he didn't receive treatment. He was bruised and badly beaten, with several deep cuts all over his body, still bleeding, his skin was badly burned. Tears fell from Satomi's eyes, the hit he'd taken for her had hit straight at his chest, one of his lungs was probably damaged. She could also tell that the wolves had been far from gentle in bringing him here.
This cave was where she'd sought shelter when she first escaped the lab, barging in on the large pack of wolves. Once she saw them, she'd been convinced that they'd kill her. But they'd been able to sense her turmoil and agony, as well as the wolf DNA that had been forcefully injected in her. They'd taken her in as a pup to be raised as their own. Her fear of getting discovered had placed a protective shield around the den, making it impossible to find for those who didn't know where it was. Laxus had coincidentally collapsed a couple of kilometers away. Taking her in like this, was probably not an issue to them. However, bringing Laxus along, a human, was a completely different matter. They'd made the right decision, even though she hadn't even been awake.
