Jen's pov:

Now before you ask...no I am not fine. My best friend is under custody for supplying drugs and Captain is off my case forever I guess.

Ironic how I wanted to get him off my back for trying to discipline me before. And now I miss the way he glared at me or how he called me a smart mouth or how he got irritated at me in particular but never once hesitated in saving my life. Maybe it's his devotion to his job or maybe not. But I can't think about the other possibilities. Captain has one of the most expressive eyes I have ever seen. And sometimes I saw him staring at me so intensely that isn't remotely near his duty as a bodyguard.

He is like a coconut, harsh from the outside and sweet from the inside. He cared even when he didn't have to. He gave his best, even when I irritated him to death. He cared even when I disrespected him many times.

He does care, I know. Then why...why did it seem so easy for him to go away that night?

And how can I blame him when I am such a scaredy-cat? Why did I say that I don't get attached easily? Why did I agree it's not right for us to be like that. Why do I regret saying that now? I want him to stare at me again. I want to hear my name on his tongue again.

A little tear escaped my eyes and I quickly rubbed it before dad could see it. I nibbled the food in front slowly.

"You look pale. You haven't been eating much lately Jen" Dad said, with worried lines on his already aged face.

"Oh I just don't have the appetite" I mumbled continuing the nibbling.

"I am so glad now that you are finally safe" He smiled widely.

"Dad how exactly...how did Captain catch the man behind all this?"

"You know the man he captured who was chasing Ralph? He got some beating and spit it out. As we suspected, they are retired and rogue soldiers of CCA. They live for the sole purpose of us destroying CCA"

"And...what about Ralph?" I asked. His name has a bitter taste on my lips. Funny how I still felt bad for him.

"Ahh, that's not going well actually. Director is resigning from his position. Ralph wasn't involved with those soldiers. He just bought some drugs from them. They were thinking of framing him and attacking the Director indirectly. I think they succeeded in one thing at least. Director did resign. '' He took the plates from my hand as I headed towards the kitchen.

"I will do the dishes. You go and rest" He said smiling.

"Dad?" I asked, stopping on my way to the room, " What will become of Ralph now?"

"I am sorry about your friend Jen. They are probably going to send him to the Rehabilitation center" Dad answered, sighing.

"Suzy you been slacking off with the staff for the past few days I wasn't present! I wanted the review report of our designs on my table at six sharp. Where is it?" I shouted, venting out my anger on the small redhead who pouted down at the floor.

"I don't remember you saying that" Suzy whispered.

"Are you saying I am lying?" I asked fuming. She pouted again this time staring at me straight in the eye.

"Yes"

"YOU..." I banged the table and then hit my head on the ply. Suzy gasped loudly.

"Boss you look tired. Why don't you go and see this doctor I know? She will-"

"Shut it before I get angry" My ears and neck turned red from the anger.

"Boss? Can I ask you something?"

"You are going to anyway. Why are you bothering with permission?" I scoffed.

"Where is Ralph?"

"GET OUT!" I heard the door open and then close. Then it opened again and I didn't bother to look up.

Two small familiar arms wrapped around my shoulders, patting comfortably. She spoke in my ear warmly, "I don't know what you have been going through these past months Boss but I can see it is hectic. I hope things will go your way"

The door opened and closed again. A text flashed on my phone screen.

Get ready, we are going out tonight!

Captain's pov:

"Clint!" A woman in her mid-fifties cried out when she saw me in front of the door of the Dempsey mansion. Her wrinkled but soft hands wrapped around my waist as she couldn't reach much farther than that. I patted her back awkwardly.

"Mom, are we gonna stand here forever?"

"What?! Of course, come in. Come in!" She pulled me inside the door with the inhuman strength that all mothers possess.

It all looks the same.

Extravagant appliances and furniture around the place much like Alissa's house. My mother, Clarissa Dempsey served me tea in one of her finest cup collections. The servants stared curiously at me. As they hardly saw her son here in the Dempsey mansion.

Correction adopted son. Part of the reason why I don't live here. None of the things here is mine.

"Son, how did you remember you have a mother?" She asked while sipping her tea. Whereas I choked on mine.

"Mum.."

"Don't give me excuses. I am dying and the only thing you care about is your job!"

"Mum...you aren't dying. Stop exaggerating please"

"You think I am exaggerating?! You are torturing me son. I need a grandchild so I can die peacefully. Oh, this selfish son of mine" She sniffed in her hanky, which she produced out of nowhere.

Servants gave me a nasty look and shared sympathetic glances for my mother. I sighed loudly, dear lord, why do mothers exaggerate everything?

"Whatever. I have fixed a meeting with a girl for you" She clapped with excitement.

"What?"

"She is someone you know closely" She smirked. And I already regret the idea of coming to meet her.

Please not Alissa!

"She is younger and extremely talented. I bet you will love her"

"Let me guess mother, she happens to be unmarried as well?"

"Why? You are clever Clint"

A bell rang and I looked at the door with a foreboding.

Yeah yeah, I know it's short. Reason? It's more like a filler chapter.

Who do you think rang the Dempsey mansion's bell?
