" Thanks dad."

"For what?" He asks almost immediately.

"For this." I point at the ice cream sitting on my lap.

"Tsk tsk." He shakes his head in disbelief. "Just that?"

I crack out laughing.

" But seriously now." I pull up a serious face. "Thanks for taking us out. I sure needed a breather."

"Figured out." He simply answers picking a small pebble from the ground and aims it at the direction where Lodzin is playing with some other kids around the park.

"How?" I'm even shocked.

He lets out a light chuckle throwing the pebble to a different direction away from the kids.

"You're my daughter. I've known you ever since you stepped foot into this so twisted world. Besides, this is the fourth year I've been a mother to you too." He smiles picking up another pebble.

The Ice I had already scooped gets suspended in the air as I stare at my dad dumbfounded.

I blink severally before my tongue finds the knot that tied it down for seconds there.

"Wow, I know, but how--- okay, I mean, I... Was I that obvious?" I finally ask.

" Of course not. But I know what I saw in your eyes." He throws the pebble on his hands and leans his back on the metal bench we're sitting on. "Is there something going on between you and Ballice? Are you okay?"

" Of course!" I lash out. " Okay uhmmm... I'm okay, I mean we are okay dad."

" Sunshine look, you know you can tell me, anything, everything."

" And that's what I'm telling you now. It's nothing Dad."

I know it's not nothing but I can't just blurt it all to him. Knowing my dad very well, he will not just sit down and assume, he'll do everything in his power to make sure Odessa and her not so good daughter are behind bars. And that's where everything will go wrong and that's where I'll loose everything and everyone I consider family including him.

My phone beeps in my jean pocket, taking it out, a text notification flashes on my screen.

Bally: Are you free tomorrow?

I feel a smile tugging at the corner of my lips and I reply almost immediately forgetting that dad is sitting beside me.

Me: whyyyyyy?

Bally: I want to take you out😉.

Me: Are you asking me out on a date Mr Mendel?

Bally: If that's how you call it, yes. Now I'm asking you Miss Kellane, will you go out on a date with me tomorrow?

Me: Do you take no for an answer handsome?

Bally: You know me better 😌.

Me: Then you have an answer.

Bally: Tomorrow 6 p.m.

Before I reply, dad clears his throat waking me up from my Bally taking me out on a date fantasy and I shove my phone into my pocket composing myself on my seat as I feel heat creeping its way up my neck from embarrassment.

"I see there's nothing wrong between you two now." He says giving me a not usual look which makes me feel more uncomfortable.

"Told you so." I find myself replying awkwardly.
