"Leo, what is going on?" I hissed. Percy had just slunk off through the trees, and I'd waited until he was out of earshot before talking.
"Nothing, Pipes. I'm just tired." His hands were flying around even more than usual. He was assembling and disassembling a helicopter in his hands. I remembered when he'd done that at the Grand Canyon, the day we'd been taken to Camp Half-Blood for the first time. Gods, that was a long time ago.
"Leo, I know there's something going on." I told him. "You can tell me anything."
"Piper, listen. I can't tell you this one. I need to be alone." That was a first.
"Leo-"
"Piper. Go." Leo's voice was cold and hard.
"Fine. See you later." I ran out of the clearing, leaving Leo dripping and staring into the distance.

When I got back to camp, it was dark. The dining pavilion was full of campers. But one stood out. she was dirty and ragged. Her hair was like a full moon, her skin the color of a cloudless night sky. She must be new, I thought. She was sitting with Percy, so I assumed she had been found or wandered into the camp near the woods where he'd walked back to camp.
"Piper," Percy said. He was still mad at me for staying to talk to Leo. I wondered what his deal was.
"Who's that?" The little girl asked. "Why are you mad at her?"
"I'm Piper," I told her. "What's your name?"
"Jasmine." she whispered. "I like your hair."
"Thank you!" I said. "Do you want me to do yours? I could get the tangles out." Her hair was chin length and tangled, with twigs and leaves snarled in it.
"Could you?" She sounded hopeful and a little bit scared.
"If you eat something first, I will. I can also fix that sweater for you." I knew how she felt. She was a scared little girl, she didn't know what was happening, and she was dirty. She had probably been in a couple fights.
"But my plate's empty!" She said.
"Tell it what you want to eat."
"Um... peach cobbler?" she asked. Fresh peach cobbler appeared on her plate. I laughed.
"Do you like peaches?" I asked.
Jasmine nodded. "How do I get something to drink?"
"Tell the goblet what you want."
"Fruit punch?" Red liquid filled her cup. "Wait. Purple fruit punch." her juice shimmered a violent shade of violet. she started to take a bite of her cobbler, but stopped when Percy touched her shoulder.
"You have to make a burnt offering to the gods before you eat." Percy told her. He picked up his plate of blue pizza (don't ask) and scraped the piece with the most cerulean pepperoni into the bronze brazier. Jasmine looked frowned in confusion, but she tipped some golden baked pieces of peach into the flames.
"Can I eat now?" she asked.
I laughed. "Yes, Jasmine, you can eat." she shoveled her peaches into her mouth.
"Done!" She jumped up from the table.
