"I need help!"

Kirstie was carrying a large bag of food into our apartment and couldn't get through the door. Of course, Scott and I rushed to her sides and took all of the bags, empting her arms for her to go back for more. We never understood why she'd do this for us, but we always had just what we needed and plenty left over for our boyfriends to snack on when they were over.

"Hey, Mitch. Where's Avi?"

I looked over to my closed door and sighed. He'd been at his therapy session longer than usual. I raised my shoulders at Scott and carried the bags in my hands to the kitchen, adding them to the pile in the corner. I turned around to see Avi carrying in the last of the bags with Kirstie following close behind him. She had this somber expression on her face, which disheartened me.

"Avi?"

He looked over and half smiled at me, the way he does. I walked over to him and took the bags from one of his hands and took the chance to look into his eyes. He wasn't rebuilt, but the windows showed a new hope that was just beginning to illuminate the coarse and hollow interior. I had never felt more relieved. He lightly kissed the tip of my nose with his familiar soft and loving lips. I almost wanted to cry. It took somewhere close to 2 months, but he was improving.

"Hey, Kitten."

I threw my arms around his neck, smacking him in the side with the bag of cereal in my hand. He laughed and hugged me back. I could still feel his sadness, but there was a thin coating of hope keeping it bottled away.

"Sorry I left for so long. I'm home now."

"I missed you."
