-Avi's Point of View-

I woke up to a familiar blues progression ringing through the small apartment. Was Mitch singing?

"...I never changed

My mind..."

The music dropped to a chilling rhythm being patted out on the hollow body of the guitar.

"Honey, please

Try to love me

Honey, please

Honey, try..."

The pure growl in his voice as he sang "honey" was killing me. He sounded so hurt I could almost hear every tear he'd ever cried in the single repeated word.

"My love will never die..."

I covered my ears. Even without processing the lyrics of the song, I could still hear his pain in the pure, unfiltered notes of beauty he belted. There were people cheering every time he did one of his well-known and beautiful runs.

"...Honey, you know

That's my love

Bursting loud

From inside..."

He was screaming. The words were just what he'd been trying not to say. He'd been protecting me from myself since that day at the restaurant a couple weeks ago. He's been trying to help me and all I've done is wallow in my own self-loathing and ignore the bigger problems.

"...My love

Oh my love my love

Will never die."

There was applause and laughter before I heard the door open and close.

"Oh, I'm sorry, did I wake you?"

"No. I'm fine."
