"Oh my god Ray! Are you seeing this!" The wind whips round my face and the water splashes against my legs as I continue to stand up on my surfboard.
A giddy laugh comes out my mouth as I stand my legs slightly bent while riding the wave. This feels amazing, I can finally understand why Ray looks damn happy all the time. If I did this every morning I think I would act like I had sunshine shining out of my ass all day too.
The sound of the boys cheering and hooting fills my ears. My grin grows and I turn my head ever so slightly to meet eyes with Ray who's got this insane look of pride on his face.
He smiles back at me. My chest flutters as my face flushes. This is the closest I've gotten to a high since I've took that oxy last week, I love it.
"That's my girl" Ray shouts, my stomach drops and I lose focus causing me to topple backwards into the waves.
Catching a quick breath before I plummet under the water the cold water races around me at a bearable pace. Staying under the water for a few moments I wade my arms around slowly.
I'm not Ray's girl. I'm his friend. I'm praying that it was just a slip of the tongue, I can't have things getting anymore complicated then they already are.
I just need to get through this summer and get home. No more complications.
Once I've sorted through all my thoughts, pushing how what Ray said really made me feel to the back of my mind. Building back up the dam I let break the other day piece by piece. I swim up to the surface and breathe in air then wipe the salt water from eyes.
"You good Harry?" Dexter yells over at me. I raise a thumbs up before resting my arms on the surfboard letting it hold the front half of me above water.
"All good" I manage to get out before closing my eyes. Surfing is exhausting.
Using the remains of my energy I climb onto the board then paddle slightly closer to shore, once I'm in a good spot I adjust myself to where I'm lying on back letting the sun warm my skin.
"Wake me up when it's time for work" I shout closing my eyes once again. I don't actually plan on sleeping on a surfboard in the middle of the ocean, I'm not stupid.
But for some reason I want to lie in the water and relax for the next half hour forgetting the world exists.
"Aw what happened, can the little girl not take the heat?" Foley's voice taunts as he paddles over towards me.
"I don't know who you're calling little girl" I mumble not particularly interested in what he has to say.
He clearly doesn't understand just how not interested I am when he stops paddling his board right next to mine casting a shadow over my body.
"You're blocking my sun" I groan opening one eye to see Foley closer to me than I expected.
He looks down at me, the water droplets in his brown hair causing a reflection from the sun that makes my eyes wince. I look away and see Ray in the distance riding a wave his addictive look of joy plastered on his face that makes me want to smile.
I watch as Dexter comes up close behind him and they both ride out the wave together. A grin takes over my features that's wiped away as quickly as it appeared when I feel the surfboard underneath me get tilted to the side and I go face first under the surface of the water.
On instinct I open my eyes underwater and it takes them moment to adjust to the pain of the salt water but it dulls eventually. Foley's figure comes into view in front of me as he slides off his surfboard and into the water.
