"You're the one from the window" I say taking a final pull from my cigarette before dropping it on the sand and stomping it out.

I look at the girl standing a few metres away, She's East Asian with dark brown eyes and her black hair is now tied up with a rainbow tie dye scrunchie on her head, but her feathered bangs are left in place covering her forehead. She's small, about five foot two and wearing a pair of light blue baggy Mom jeans secured by a black shoelace, weird. Paired with a white tank and a pink cropped cardigan with flowers embroidered on it. My eyes scan her hands that are painted with silver glitter, in one is a juul and in the other is two cans of beer.

"And Juuls are ten times worse than cigarettes, haven't you heard of popcorn lung?" I add, she smiles and takes a puff.

"Fair play, I'm Suzy-May" she walks forward, takes a seat next to me on the rock and passes me a beer.

"I'm Harry and thanks" I crack the can open, take a sip and she does the same, "So what are you, stalking me?" I ask while we drink.

"Well no, me and my friends had just got the beach and I saw you walk round here and figured I'd come introduce myself" She replies and I raise my eyebrows, still kinda stalky but oh well.

"Ah and this is probably a good time to mention that your Grandma asked my Mom to ask me to just like be friendly and watch out for you, ya know." Things click into place all of a sudden and I take a huge drink.

"So you're basically my assigned friend huh" I look out at the ocean and wonder how long it would take me to use all my strength to swim to Seattle.

"Pretty much, don't worry me and my friends aren't that bad and you can hang out with us whenever, we don't do much but the parties aren't bad" I notice that her voice perfectly matches her style, girly and singsongy.

I nod my head a few times, if my grandparents let me leave the house, this girl could be alright to hang out with.

My phone vibrates and I turn my phone over but nothing comes up,

"It's me" Suzy-May takes her phone out her jean pocket, its covered by a care bear phone case that makes me smile. "thats my friends they wanna know if I'm bringing the loner chick over" She laughs and looks at me "Am I?".

"Sure" I say with a small smile on my face and stand up, brushing my skirt down and shaking some of the sand off my shoes.

Suzy-May stands up, leaving her now empty beer can on the rock we were sitting on, and links her arm in mine.

"Come on, they'll love you" She says walking away, dragging me along with her.

I laugh a little as this tiny girl, who's at least four inches shorter than me, pulls me along like a feather before I finish whats left of my beer and drop it in the sand with the other left behind beer cans.

On our way over to her friends Suzy-May explains how she, her parents and younger brother moved down here four years ago from Los Angeles to take care of her grandmother, on her Dad's side, and just ended up staying when she died because her Mom got really successful being the only dermatologist in the town, I nodded along politely, not really caring much but trying to make some sort of good impression.

She nods in the direction of a group of three girls, two sitting on a red blanket and one sitting on a cooler, each dressed similarly to Suzy-May but still retaining some kind of originality. They're immersed in conversation, laughing and drinking when we reach them.

"Guys this is Harry" she says announcing me to the group and they all stop their conversation and turn their attention over to me, "Harry this is Jessie, Liberty and Yasmine".
