The one thing in Zaide's life that did not change drastically was the lake.
They had been going to that very lake for seven years since Thomas discovered the path one day with his friends and the first person he wanted to take was Zaide.
Them going there together ever since was their own little secret.
They sat down. Thomas' back against the tree with Zaide between his legs. The younger boy wrapped his boyfriend's hands around him.
The scenery was beautiful. Cranes were flying over the lake. Somewhere deep in the woods a woodpecker was hammering against the bark. Chirps of cricket could be heard too.
Zaide did not know when he had fallen asleep, but he woke up when Thomas' phone vibrated in his pocket that Zaide could feel against his thigh.
Thomas picked up with a grumble. Seemed like Thomas too fell asleep. "What?" Then he perked up shoving at Zaide's back accidentally. "What?!"
"What is it?" Zaide asked facing the older boy.
Thomas only took his face in his hands and kissed him with the whispers of "I love you, babe."
