'Mom, you'd know that my room is not messy, if you've taken just one peek.' He wanted to say to his mother. 'If only you had been there when I was scared of the monster under my bed or in the closet, so that no monster could come out and say they were going to kidnap me for being a bad kid, so that Santa would keep bringing us gifts.'
He wanted to say a lot of things.
He was scared that if he did not clean his room and be a good little boy, he would be punished by his dad and that was the thing, along his mother's absence, he hated the most.
But, he did not say anything. Just kept quiet and smiled before going up the stairs into his bedroom.
