Chapter 11

"Where is Yeji? I haven't seen her all day," Ryujin said, while walking towards the sofa and lazily collapsing right beside Chaeryeong.

Chaeryeong shook her head in disbelief and chuckled. "She's inside her room."

"Why is that?"

"Remember what I told you awhile ago?"

Ryujin squinted her eyes and looked up for a moment while stroking her chin, trying to remember the exact words Chaeryeong told her. Of course she was able to deduce the words, and actually remembers it, but she's just not sure.

In short, she knows what it is but just in case. She'll just ask Chaeryeong anyway.

"Like, uhmm... what was it again?" Ryujin said, mumbling the last part of her words and scratching the back of her head.

Chaeryeong only face palmed. Knowing Ryujin, she knows that Ryujin could and would definitely end up forgetting everything she mentions.

She knows this best because Ryujin, who sometimes looks intellectual and quiet intimidating, somehow is actually quiet of a crackhead.

"Last night Yeji helped someone from ending their life."

Ryujin over dramatically gave an exaggerated gasp, all at the same time jokingly flailing her arms up. "She did? That is so not surprising, but surprising at the same time!"

"Huh? I swear Ryujin if you were just any other angel I would've disowned you already."

"Oh come on Ryeong, I know you wouldn't do that," Ryujin uttered, while placing her arms over Chaeryeong's shoulder.

Chaeryeong crossed her arm and looked at the closed doors of the cat eyed girl. "Y-you're right, but sometimes you just say dumb things that makes me want to disown you."

Ryujin ignored what Chaeryeong said and instead flashed her signature smile and showing off her cat like whiskers dimple  towards Chaeryeong.

For the record, Chaeryeong and Ryujin is sort of a partner. Ryujin is also partnered with Yeji before, but ever since Yeji's unfortunate turning. Ryujin slowly transitioned to becoming Chaeryeong's partner.

So Chaeryeong leaving Ryujin behind would never happen, but could also be a possibility.

"You know I'm curious about this, why does Yeji still possess the ability to feel sympathy despite being a devil?" Chaeryeong queried, raising one of her eyebrow and looking at Ryujin. As a sudden realization hit her.

Ryujin had also wondered about that fact, but no answer is yet to cross her mind. She did think that maybe a mortal had something to do with Yeji's sudden actions, but other than that. No other possible answers ever crossed her empty mind.

"To be honest I don't know Ryeong, like even before she became a devil. She was already hard to read, you know?"

"I get you, but it makes me wonder that what if something or someone is actually making her change, and what if by having Yeji being acquainted with this said someone or something. It may lead to more catastrophic events."

Ryujin sighed, standing up from her relaxed sitting position and walking over to the window. "For now Ryeong, we just need to be careful, we don't know if a demon is wondering around with us, waiting to strike."

"You got i—" Chaeryeong stopped, as her mouth dropped down. Something just flew right through her mind, something that she felt was off. "Wait... isn't it odd that something hasn't happened yet, like things are oddly going smoothly. Yet it feels off putting as to how calm it is," she finished.
