The news that Harry and I had a shouting match with Umbridge about Voldemort seemed to travel around the school faster than gossip usually did, and that was saying something.I had decided not to go to dinner, because I couldn't afford to explode on somebody again. I knew people would be staring and whispering loudly, and I didn't want to lose it again. I already had detention for a week, and I was officially Umbridge's most hated student (along with Harry, of course).
Now that I thought about it, I'd been in a lot of arguments already this year, and it had only been a day and a half.
Instead of going to dinner, I took a walk around the castle, and then sat on the marble staircase, not really knowing what else to do. I sort of just sat there thinking, sitting sideways on a stair with my back against the wall.
Yeah, I was a total wreck.
"Hey, why aren't you at dinner?"
I turned my head towards Fred's voice, and smiled as I saw him walking towards me.
"You know why," I said. "I'm sure you heard about what happened, and I can't afford to explode on somebody again, so..."
"What actually happened today, Lily?" he asked, sitting beside me.
"Have you had her class?" I said, glancing at him.
"Not yet, but that doesn't mean she's any less revolting," Fred responded.
"She's more than revolting. She isn't actually teaching us to use defensive magic, you know. She's just having us read the book all year. So everyone started asking her how we were going to know how to defend ourselves in the real world, and she insisted that children like us wouldn't need to defend ourselves against anything," I explained. "That's how Voldemort came up, and she was just terrible... she was saying he isn't back, and that Cedric wasn't murdered, and you can imagine how the shouting went for yourself..."
"Why's she doing this?" Fred said, looking angry now. "I'm gonna give her hell, Lily, I swear. George and I weren't even sure if we were going to come back this year, I don't care if we get booted out."
"If Umbridge starts kicking people out of the school, I'll voluntarily leave with you," I snorted. "But I know exactly why she's doing this. She'll do anything her dear Ministry tells her, and they hate Dumbledore right now. Hell, they hate me. They don't want to accept that Voldemort is back, because they're scared. It'll be more trouble than they've had in years."
"The toad deserved it, I'm glad you gave her a piece of your mind," Fred said. "How bad was the yelling?"
"Bad. Harry and I were both shouting, and then she kicked us out. Harry left right away, but Umbitch-"
"Umbitch?" Fred laughed. "How'd you think of that before I did?"
"Because she's a bitch, obviously," I grinned. "Anyways, Umbitch basically told me I wasn't allowed allowed to be a Metamorphmagus, because it was distracting. Can you believe that? I can't control that sort of thing! Well, I can, but not when I'm mad... Then I lost control, and Ron ended up having to drag me out."
"I'll bet she's scared of you after that," Fred grinned.
"Hm, I dunno. With her Ministry power, she thinks she's invincible..."
"How many detentions?"
"A week's worth," I groaned. "I don't wanna see her elderly toad face every day!"
"I'm sorry, love," Fred said, taking my hand. "If it makes you feel better, Ginny left a drawing of a pink toad on Umbridge's blackboard when she went into the corridor to yell at some sixth years for a moment."
